Subject: New To Blender, Wow what Progress

Slowhands ( ) posted Thu, 22 March 2012 at 2:58 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 9:21 AM

I had tried Blender way back in the 90's, I was just getting started in Computer Animation. All I can say is Wow, what progress. What made me take another look was I saw the Movie made by Blender called, the Sintel's Third Open Movie, and was very impressed that Blender had progressed that much. Not to slight the Artist that made that movie at All. They did an awlsome job. I saw some things that weren't as good as other parts, but not objectionable at all. Especially when I found out the time crunch where they had to make choices of just a little of quality loss, or speed. That was over all Pretty much A Top notch production.

I had downloaded it to try it out just about 10 minutes ago, So I have to learn the tools and all the new advances. I seen people bragging all the things you could do with Blender, but the old interface and the way you worked with the tools didn't lend itself the way I would go about things. (But I was also just learning at that time so everything was different then)

I am hopping that I can start doing my movies for the most part in blender. I have a lot of Poser, and Daz figures, that I would like to be able to import into Blender. This is going to take a while, as I'm in the Process of writing my next movie. But all the things you can do in Blender now is pretty much everything I need.

All I can say is Great Work Guys and Girls.

Pretty cool indeed....the Nature Academy is also pretty cool if you're into natural scenes

I have so much on my table right now, I don't know exactly what all is included and what is a plugin, in Blender. Example: making water and controling it, or are those plugins.

Very nice clip. That Tree, grass, Were excellent.

I guess they could be called 'plugins' but Blender peeps call them 'addons'. They are all in the installation..just not all activated.

If you go to your preferences,  you can click on the 'addons' tab, and place a check beside anything you want to activate...There is a tree generator there also called 'sapling' you can activate...along with the free ivy generator {that wont become available tho in the 'add a mesh' until you have something else in the scene for it to 'grow' on}

Lots of stuff in the addons :) If you need help with a specific something..give us a holler. Im still working my way thru Blender as well..like you, I had it a LONG time ago, and just recently was reintroduced to the newest version..I was like WOW! And I could go on and on for days about the 'cycles' renderer.. :biggrin:

Thanks Jumpstartme, and Heddheld for your imput. I had glanced at the post you spoke of, but that was before I downloaded Blender. So I didn't have a reference. I'm going working to learn Blender, when ever I need a break from my writing my next movie. That will help me refresh my writing bank with a little more juice. Hee, Hee!

I'll check out the Post more in debth.
