3Dream's new freebee in BB's soft studio scene. Rendered in Poser Pro 2012

I wonder if SM could supply WM version of their old characters in a future update.

WandW ( ) posted Sat, 24 March 2012 at 7:49 AM

Posette has almost as many polys as Genesis... 😄

Weight-mapped G2 Sydney is in progress at Poser Place,  but it would be nice indeed to have a bigger stable of weight-mapped figures.

Here is a script that will change existing rigging to its weight mapped equivalent. You can fine tune from there as required.

Wow, thanks Phil I'll try that out now.

VonCroy ( ) posted Sat, 24 March 2012 at 8:31 AM

Well, I tried the script. I got quite a few 'unable to process' errors. Examples below:

Unable to process Hip zOffset Unable to process Hip yOffset Unable to process Hip xOffset Unable to process Hip Scale Unable to process Hip xScale Unable to process Hip yScale Unable to process Hip zScale Unable to process Hip Twist Unable to process Hip Side-Side Unable to process Hip Bend Unable to process Hip xTranB Unable to process Hip yTranB Unable to process Hip zTranB Unable to process Hip xTran Unable to process Hip yTran Unable to process Hip zTran Unable to process Abdomen heroAb

Posette came with Poser4.

And as far as Poly distribution goes, it is one of the best figures that ever existed in Poser.

All newer figures that came with Poser had way more poly's. BUT !
AS A RESULT OF BLINDFOLD SUBDEVISION OF LOWER POLY FIGURES WITHOUT CLEANING UP AFTERWARDS.

Posette, Judy and Genesis, are the only figures that USE all their poly's.

PhilC ( ) posted Sat, 24 March 2012 at 8:58 AM · edited Sat, 24 March 2012 at 8:59 AM

That is correct.

Rather than try and second guess exactly which parameters would convert I encased the process in a "try/except" clause. That way when the script comes up against something that Poser can not process it just moves on to the next item rather than crashing.

The printout is just informing the user of what is going on.

Do you have the PP2012 SR1 installed?

How about the Dork?  Does he have as many polys as Posette?  I have a really good character for him by Arduino called Claudio.  I really think these gems are very overlooked because they came with such poor, low res maps.

SamTherapy ( ) posted Mon, 26 March 2012 at 10:37 AM

@ Tomsde - There's a site (if it's still going) which had some first class maps for Posette, by Staale Loseth, IIRC.  Well, they were first class for the time, anyhow.  Can't remember the name of the site, unfortunately.

Of course when I say Dork, I mean the P4 male figure.  I don't think he had as many things availalble for him as Posette did.

There seems to be quite a bit of stuff here:

you all may have already seen this...

I'll have to check it out.

Yeah, if they'll let you register.  I got banned from there because I was a moderator here when Tormentor had a meltdown.  Guy has a loooong memory and bears grudges.  It's a shame because it's not a bad site at all and has some cool stuff.

Not that I'd know for sure, since I'd never dream of registering at a site by using false credentials. ;)

If you like Posette you can try Nea which is a figure based on her geometry

Many new original morphs (266 face  & 81 body morphs) and many new features

Nea has been updated to 2.12 you can get her here:

Tomsde ( ) posted Fri, 06 April 2012 at 6:35 AM

She's very pretty.  On other forums people look down upon older figures, but many have their own merits and are very usuable and create believeable human likenesses.  I wish someone would develop some other stuff for the Dork (P4 man) or even Don (P5 man).  I think Don had a lot of potential, but he was generally ignored and under utilitized.  To me he has a better, more natural look than James.

VonCroy ( ) posted Fri, 06 April 2012 at 6:45 AM

Yes PP 2012. Default lights. Not much effort yet. Just getting everything installed and setup. Next to try an IDL set up.

yarp ( ) posted Fri, 06 April 2012 at 6:54 AM

I love Posette too (although using V4 now). What makes the difference between figures is the amount of available textures, character set, facial expressions and of course cloths.

I just bet a WM Posette/Nea with VSS would be a Poser lady for all seasons.  Maybe, just maybe, David's claim about her bending abilities (the dirty auld bugger) would finally become a reality. ;)

Sooo many people move on to the new and shiney without ever realizing the full potential of the older figures. It's sad if you ask me. Don & Judy from Poser 5, was well as their kids can use Michael & Victoria 2 skin textures. Don uses Michael 2 and Judy & the kids use Vicky 2 skins.

Tomsde ( ) posted Sat, 07 April 2012 at 6:30 PM

Steve Jax, I've tried M2 textures on Don, and there is a problem around the eyes.  Is there a way to correct for that?

SteveJax ( ) posted Sun, 08 April 2012 at 12:56 AM

I have no idea. I've never used them for closeups and never really noticed.

Tomsde ( ) posted Sun, 08 April 2012 at 7:13 PM

Head map with Don eyes, the eyelids don't align properly--could be fixed with post work I think but it's problematic.  I don't want to hijack the thread, but since we were talking about the value of older figures and their potential I just wanted to add this here.  Posette is not the only under appreciated figure.

pitklad ( ) posted Mon, 09 April 2012 at 2:54 AM

This needs to be fixed on a UV program, but than Don will not work on Face room any more

I've tryed in the past to remmap Don's eyes to match exactly Mike's texture but than face room gave me a wrong message...

It would be easier to just fix the texture maps for Don if you ask me. I've only used them in shots that are 6 feet or more away and you really don't notice the eyelids at that distance.
