Subject: Loading displacement maps in Poser

Hey guys!

I've been working for weeks on a character for the marketplace, and have run into a dead end on one of the options I want to give her in Poser.  This option is to load a displacement map & setting without having to load the diffuse textures or change anything else.  For example, if the tattoos are loaded, I'd like my customers to be able to use this displacement option without loading the default textures.  It's possible to do this in DS, but not in Poser without some kind of python.

I played around in both Poser9 and in Notepad++ and tried to create this mat file, but have not succeeded.  Then asked BagginsBill who was kind to reply what I feared, which is "it's impossible in Poser without creating a python/script, which is a lot of work".  I've no clue how to create a script, and am unwilling to put a lot MORE work for this simple option lol.  However, he also pointed me to a program sold at Daz3D, the ole Shader Spider" program here http://www.daz3d.com/i/shop/itemdetails?item=3551

I looked it over and see that it would only work with Poser6 SR3 and Poser7, and since something changed in the way python works in Poser9 (and I don't know if it's a python or not), I highly doubt it would work.  I do have a copy of Poser6, but the first version before Frontier became the owner of the company, so I'm not even sure if I can update it to SR3.

Originally I had the "Frontier" copy, but lost it in a computer crash, and Content Paridise refused to give me another copy since they have since updated their site.  I got the old copy from a friend (not a hacked or ripped version) that my serial number works on, so it's all legal.

Two questions.  First, is it possible to update my version of Poser6?  Second, if it's possible, and I buy this program & make the mat file, would the mat file work for Poser9?

A question here which I believe I'll get a "no", but, will ShaderSpider work in Poser9?

Thanks a lot for all the time anyone has to answer me, this is very much appreciated :)

For others, I'm opening this thread for this type of discussion/new idea :)

Semideu's Advanced Shaders script may allow you to do what you require, and it's free too.

I forgot about AS. Check that one out first.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

I believe this is it!!!  Thank you guys so much, immediately downloaded and installed!  Waiting for my Daz Studio to save this scene (not a very large scene, but DS4 save takes ages) then will give this a go, thanks again guys! :)

Bernie-good to see you!  I was just thinking just the other day I hadn't seen you in a while.  I'm still having fun with Sabrina Blinker.  😄

You can get SR-3 for Poser 6 here...

This thing works fine and dandy!! :)  It's not for the faint hearted though, not really, at least when you use the pose file it creates, for the preview screen reacts funny and lightens up the surfaces the pose file effected (might freak the faint hearted out LOL!).  That's fine though, both before and after using the pose file, the skin surfaces in both test renders are the same (except the displacement of course).  Once you save and reload the scene, everything looks normal again.

It is, however, a misfortune that people with lower versions then Poser7 won't be able to use the files, so I'll leave my old file there for them (that loads the default skin).

Hey Wand!!   LTNS buddy, it's great to see you again :)  Thanks a lot for that link, I haven't re-installed Poser6 yet, but hopefully it'll work :)  I'm glad you're still enjoying Sabrina (wow it's been a long time since her release too), believe it or not, I am too, just can't resist loading her 'cause she's a lot more realistic then most characters and not just another baby face/big boobed doll lol!  I may be back at Daz3D, not sure if I want to ask for the "privilage" back or not, but have been thinking about it.
