Subject: Am I Stupid? What's All This Genesis Stuff About? O.o

Glen ( ) posted Wed, 09 May 2012 at 11:10 AM · edited Thu, 21 November 2024 at 1:28 PM

Hello again folks!

Ok, so I've been looking at all these pretty V5 & M5 renders online and would really like to get these two into my Poser Pro 2010 scenes, but can I, and, if so, how? The whole V5, M5, Genesis thing is really confusing the bejesus out of me, I can actually feel my brain starting to bubble in my head! Please, someone, explain to me how I get V5 and M5, what I need and where from. There seems to be no record of 'Genesis' as a figure in itself anywhere, which is further confusing when I read up that V5, M5 and so on are basically morphs that are applied to the Genesis figure.

What do I need?

Where do I get everything from?

What program do I need, (will it run on PP 2010)?

I have a headache, lol! I'm sorry if the answers to these questions are obvious, but I'm feeling really stupid today and need spoon-feeding. Please help me, treat me like I'm a cave man and don't understand how the wheel works! :p

Thankyou! :)

Genesis figures will not work in Poser. They depend on the DS4 software. There is an exporter, but I don't know how well it works. I've personally never used it. DS4 Pro is free for the moment if you'd like to think about switching software. But Daz figures don't work in Poser anymore. Sorry, the old ones do (Generation 4 and below) but not the Gen 5s

Go to DAZ3D.com.  That is the home of Genesis and V5/M5.  Search the forum, plenty of threads about it, pro and con.  Bottomline, it was exclusively developed for DAZStudio 4 which you can get free for a very limited time.  No actual Poser support.

Glen ( ) posted Wed, 09 May 2012 at 11:40 AM

I have the free DS already and pretty much hate it to death. It's just so horrible to use, I can't say a single nice thing about it, lol! Oh well, looks like I'll just stick to my good old friends, V4 and M4.

It seems then that Daz are going off on their own with things now... If that's the case, what does the future hold for Poser, I wonder? Daz's figures have been the most commonly used throughout Poser, or so I thought. :(

Thankyou for the info though, much appreciated! :)

Genesis does not fully work in Poser, so we don't talk about it in the Poser thread.

All the best.

Studio 4 has a CR2 exporter that will allow the figure to be used in Poser 9/2012.  With smoothing on and a crease angle of 170 for the figure, it works quite well naked.

However, Clothing is problematic, as the conforming doesn't work properly in Poser on clothing exported form Studio.  It can be fitted by conforming the clothing after morphing the figure and selecting Copy Joint Parameters from the Figure menu (I don't know if this is in Poser 9). This procedure gives decent results on reasonably tight fitting clothing.  I haven't yet tried it on a skirt, but I'd expect it not to work as well, nor on shoes...

PS; Richard, V4.2 doesn't fully work in Poser, but there is no problem discussing what does work here... 😉

Wow that bad with the clothes? I would consider that to be more trouble than it's worth...lol. I didn't even realize it was that much of a mess.

As long as V4 & M4 are supported, i.e. new clothes, textures, character packages, etc then there will be plenty in Poser's future.  But, Poser is much more than V4 & M4. You can also use tons of props/figures/obj's and it has animation features.  Plus you can make you're own props and figures with Poser.  I think that DAZ made such a big deal about V4 & M4 versions 1-4 for so long that people don't realize there are many other dolls that are just as good, if not better, on the market for free or nominal prices in comparison to V4/M4 and all their add-ons.

Have you seen the weight mapped version of V4?  If not, it's absolutely lovely to work with.  You can get a free copy at RDNA.  The only thing that's a little different is fitting clothes on her.

FYI in case you don't know... Just load the clothes then conform them to V4.  It won't fit, but no worries.  Mark the clothes then go to the figure tab and copy joint zones from... make sure Victoria4-WM is in the box then click ok.

Away you go with the clothes fitting the way they're supposed to :0)

Clothes Outfitter from PoserPlace will convert V4 clothing to weightmapped clothing and create new CR2 without any effort.

Yep.  I even tried Outfitter, but it blows up.  I figured SR2 would fix it, but either there is an issue with the exported clothing, or Poser's conforming won't handle those scaling  ERCs.  I suspect the former, but I'm not ambiitious enough to try to create a piece of test clothing in Poser to see.

However, if one is doing noodie pix or using dynamic cloth, V5 looks very nice...

No, it won't.  You will need to upgrade to the newest version of Poser, and use the exporter, which doesn't work very well.

Or just use DAZ Studio.  You kind of have to anyway, to get anything into Poser.

Now lets see, do I need to put her through an exporter? No.

Do all her morphs work? Yes.

Do the clothing items, both conforming or dynamic work? Yes.

So, as far as I know, she works and has done so for years.

My......

Genesis does not fully work in Poser, so we don't talk about it in the Poser thread.

Is a variation of SnowSultan's and is used as a polite way of mentioning it. It does not cause flames etc.

Actually, all of Victoria 4's morphs do not work in Poser; the leg length morphform being the worst offender, due to the single axis scaling issue.   Genesis seems to morph well, and mixing the Generation 3 morphs is fun,  but I haven't played with Troll or other extreme morphs.

It's unreasonable that discussing how a figure works within Poser is somehow outside the bounds of discussion in the Poser forum; If there were an issue with this thread, a Moderator would have said something by now.  This Forum belongs to all of us...

Yanno Richard, you keep posting that but what I think they mean is if it starts turning into a pissing contest. Nothing has yet. Of course, you never know if you keep posting that damn thread. I mean, it's starting to chafe me a little bit - a lot more than Daz does at the moment.

I haven't tried the weight mapped V4 yet, no. I'll look into it, as it sounds interesting, thankyou! Genesis does indeed sound like too much hassle to bother with right now and, as I said before, DS is a right heap, in my opinion; honestly one of the most horrid programs I've ever tried to work with, aside from 3DS, so I just won't go near it, I want to keep what hair I have left, LOL!

Thankyou to everyone who's posted helpful comments and advice, it's very much appreciated and I'm glad I'm not stupid, haa! :p Maybe if this kind of information was easily found by everyone, this kind of thing would be more common knowledge. ;)

Calm down guys..

This thread is asking about Genesis but its regarding Poser. Also, then the thread conts. on about V4 weight mapping.

Lets not make this big deal  just because Genesis is brought up. If the thread is regarding Poser too it is ok as long as it does not go down hill. Thank you for making sure the forum stays within the rules tho :)

Keep in mind, Charly, that V4WM also requires Poser 9/PP2012.  I found PP2012 to be a worthwhile upgrade from PP2010.

One other issue with the Studio 4 exporter I neglected to mention is that the materials are not exported properly; the bump maps are not connected and the transparency of the lashes is turned off.  Wim came up with the excellent work-around of saving the materials, appying them to V4 and running EZSkin, resaving, and applying that material collection to Genesis.  The export is not as straightforward as it could/should be, but it only needs to be done once for each UV set...
