Subject: Changing old links into new links?

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Tue, 08 May 2012 at 2:16 PM · edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 7:17 AM

How do you change old links into new links to find the same thread?

For instance, I was looking for this thread:

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2740854&page=1

It comes up with an error message, (it says only co-ordinators can access that thread) I thought it was because it was an old link before the forum changed, but perhaps it's a deleted thread?

I was looking for a tutorial on Wings3d UVMapping, there are so few of them around.

Can anyone help?

Try googling it.  I did and found 6 tutorials right off the bat for that... :-)

Yes, I know that, I've already done umpteen searches like that, this particular link was one of those, so I wanted to know what it linked to...

Do you know how to change an old link into a current one?

That message means the thread has been moved to a forum you can't access not that the link is an old one.

That's right. I don't know why, but it has been removed. So sorry.  It's been awhile since it was moved... One of those rare cases when it's just not available any longer.

is possible to change undeleted old link to new format (as seen in URL bar at top of browser), in case you've got one.  e.g.  thread_id<1000000.  old threads archived, but  obsolete IMVHO.

Oh right, thanks nruddock, I wasn't sure which one it was.

Yes, I knew it was possible, but couldn't remember how to do it.

I know it's not something that would work on this partucular URL address, (thanks to nruddock understanding the difference) but this, (clicking a link and finding out it's an old one) happens all the time, so I would still like to know how to turn an old link into a new one.

Does anyone know how?

as implied above, paste old thread ID/number into form field of new URL format, as shown below, using one of oldest known msgs:
