Actually, your jokes were funny.  Made me laugh.  And I thought your humor was obvious and not the least bit misunderstandable.

Reminded me of the Monty Python "Four Yorkshiremen" sketch.  And I am a Yorkshireman so it was fitting.  :)

In fact, thinking of comedy sketches, the name Aery Soul reminds me of one on Not the Nine O'clock News, which featured the cast speaking in very exaggerated Swedish accents.

The sketch was, a guy goes into a store and asks for a can of deodorant.  The assistant says "Ball or Aerosol?"

"Neither", replies the guy, "For under my arms".  :drumroll: 

Now, using that sort of accent, say the name Aery Soul.  :lol:

So who's betting they change their name again, this time to something that doesn't sound like arsehole?  :lol:

Question from a customer who has that hard earned 10 bucks. Do vendor's have to pay to have a store here?  Most of us customer's really don't know the process. We just show up and hope someone has read our mind and fulfilled our dreams!

Yep, we do have to pay, in a roundabout way.  Renderosity takes a cut from everything we sell.  Last time I had anything for sale, it was around 40% - 50%.  I think the top vendors keep more of the share but things may have changed since then.

I wonder if the 50-50 split has caused many vendors to quit selling. After the novelty of selling a 3D item wore off for me I stopped creating Poser content. The time it takes to create versus what you get back is lopsided. However, it seems some of the top sellers are doing well by just doing variations of previous products, thus cutting down their development time and perhaps actually making a profit, unless they turn around and buy other's Poser stuff with the credit...

Dunno.  The very best vendors can charge higher prices and hopefully get more sales.  If they get to keep a bigger slice of the cake, I guess it may be worthwhile continuing.  

One thing I wouldn't make any more is human skin textures.  There are so many around now, and so many resource packs, they have been hugely devalued.  People generally aren't interested if you made it from raw photos or a resource pack and they'll pay very llittle, considering the amount of work that can go into a texture.  Doing it the hard way really is hard work for little reward.

My intention is to sell models, rather than texture sets, this time around.  I'm sharpening my skills and when I feel I can offer a good enough product or two, I'll get them up for sale here.  To be honest, I really could do with the money; even if it ain't much, it'll be useful.  In any case, models generally have a greater perceived value than textures, even if the work involved is the same or less.  Plus, they have a potentially longer life, since (for example) a model Volkswagen is still a valid car, even after Victoria 25 is dead and buried.

I guess the trick is to make a model that's popular enough, well enough made and different enough that people will want it.  Too far away from current trends and you limit your market.  Too close and you run the risk of duplication.  And, of course, a lousy model does your reputation no good at all.

But, having been a vendor yourself, you already know these things.  :)

for me it was realising I can't charge a proper price for a set, that I'm supposed to charge a pittance for the work. sorry if I can earn more flipping burgers or even washing cars than selling a set it took me a week to make, then there's no point in selling. add in the 50/50 split and it's really not worth the effort.

Well, I admit, the year or so that I did have a store I was in the process of learning as I was making 3D models. I was surprised actually at how much money I did make, even after the split. But I did a rough estimate of hours spent modeling one of the projects and it worked out to about $1.44 an hour. By comparison flipping burgers would make you rich!

It is a no win equation if you view it like that.  The way I see it is, I enjoy making stuff and if I can sell some of it, too, all well and good.  Otherwise, the things I make would only be sitting in my own Runtime anyhow.

It did me ;). Give up 50 percent for a product that gets lost in two days and where, unless you're a top vendor, you're luckY if you get an ad roll around once a week? Nah, I wasn't real fond of it :).

Actually AsShanim was originally at RDNA and left and came here and got into DAZ3D as well.

They seem to have left DAZ3D as well as here as we all know about and are back at RDNA now as AlphaSeed. They also had their own site and forums to support their product line, freebies and galleries but it got too hectic for them so they closed down their site twice I think. I got with their permission An Alice texture converted for use on V2 there with their blessing which makes them really cool like that.

I love their stuff and have almost all of it starting from the works for V2/M2 (what little they did for him). Just got one of their textures for V4 at RDNA and it rocks.....of course
