THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Yep, I'm still alive. And have a question.

Ok, I know some of you "old timers" may remember me, and yep I'm still alive. I've just been real busy the last few months because I went back to school this semester and have not had time to be online or anything. But a couple of weeks ago I dusted off my old trusty bryce and started to play a little bit and here is what I came up with. I have a problem though, there is something missing in this pic. The ripples from where the dolphin came out of the water, and the "splash" of water. I know how to get the water, just make a ton of little spheres textured with a water texture. But the ripples are giving me fits, I can't get anything realistic looking or anything that matches the existing water plane. I have created my own ripples by making a symmetrical lattice and editing it in the terrain editor and it looks fine on it's own. But when I put it down on the water plane it does not match the existing water even though I am using the same water material. It looks too blue, and I can't get it to match so that it will blend in even when I go into the material lab and play with it. I think it has something to do with the way refraction and reflection properties. Has anyone else had this problem? And does anyone have any suggestions? Anything would help at this point, I don't know what to try next. Thanks, Autoloader

Hi there Autoloader glad to see your Brycing again :) As for your question...you could as an alternative to having so many spheres with a water texture try using a flattened terrain or lattice and then just add noise or spikes to it and then add the texture. Then again you could use the particle explosion that I found on the Props Guild in the Sci-Fi section that would also make a good splash. For a ripple you could try using PaintShop Pro or Photoshops on an black background with varying shades of grey drawn on it in no paticular shapes add the ripple filter and play until you get the effect you want. Then save the image in greyscale and use it when you enter the terrain editor...I've found terrains quite handy for this sort of thing...heck for many things in Bryce :) Hope this helps, Regards Eshal

Eeeep!!! I forgot to mention when you put the water on the terrain try using the same one adjusting it as needed...I tend to make mine a little less reflective and more transperant. If you still have trouble give me a yell and I'll see if I can dig out a few that I've made for you. Eshal

Thanks for the suggestion on the splash. I will check out the particle explosion. As for the ripples, what you suggested is exactly what I did. I just can't get the water to match up even though I use the same one and still play around with the settings. Autoloader
