Subject: Combing 2 pz3 scene togehter?

melovewrestling ( ) posted Tue, 29 May 2012 at 2:14 PM · edited Sun, 02 February 2025 at 6:47 AM

Hi all!

Was searching for a while in the forum but couldn't seem to find a solution of it, hope it's not posted already..

anyhow, here's the issue. I have 2 pz3 files, one with a character fully customized and clothed and hair and everything, the other one with some scenery setup already with tonnes of props and such.

So what i wanna do is to kind of "import" the built up character into the other pz3 file which the contents are already there. should be a simple way but couldn't manage.. :(

any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!!

I'm not sure but I think what you'll have to do is load the pz3 with the character, save the character and all it's morphs, clothing, parented props etc. to the library.  Then add the character to the scene pz3.

Open the scene with the props then File/Import/Poser Document  and pick the PZ3 with the character. The two scenes will be merged, but you will have to delete extra lights.

Yep, that's it. I've done it many times. Open the file with the props scene, and then import the file with the character.

But do keep in mind, any light sets present in both scenes will be combined into the one.  Go through and delete the unnecessary lighting.

Better still, delete all the unwanted lights before you import or you'll have to work out which ones they are.

Also be aware you will not import the render settings/camera settings of the scene you bring in, but keep the ones you're currently in. So decide which of the two scenes it's best to be in when you import the other.

You can import one or more pz3 files into an open Poser document; from the menu bar, File > Import > Poser Document/Prop.  I would recommend that all the lights be deleted from all but one of the pz3 files.

Quote - I have 2 pz3 files, one with a character fully customized and clothed and hair and everything...

Whilst you can import a pz3, it's not the way I would go about things. Pz3 files are "scene" files, they are good for saving entire scenes, they are not an efficient way of saving or loading characters by themselves.

You could save your fully customized character, with clothing, hair, parented props, et al, to the figures library palette, that's what it is there for. It's then easy to add the character(s) to any scene, without any complications or messing around. When you add the character to the scene, use the double check maks, using the single check mark would replace any existing character, which is usually not what you want.

In case anyone finds my above post rather strange, it was in satyrical responce to a post by someone named 'jaenzz'. That post, which was the context of my post, has now been deleted. If your intreasted in what it said, see this thread, which contains an image of an identical post.

Oh and by the way, you can use the Import Poser Document/Prop option.  Don't forget to delete the lights.

Just in case you didn't get it the first 37,925 times.
