Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 06 4:35 pm)
what are considerations for making a brand new male figure?
i guess, i would try to make it fit m3 or M4 textures?
shape the figure's head to use V4 hair with minimal fuss?
i luv James6 hands. do you think SM would let me use James's hands if i made the figure for the SM store?
oh yeah, and flexible toast. so the figure could do a cartwheel or stand on his head and the toast could sway accordingly.

i would put predefined hair groups for eyebrows, chin, cheeks, etc. lightless nostrils. inner mouth, hmmm ? i've always wanted inner mouth as separate figure.
is there anything you've always wanted in your current male figures?

Genitals that WORK without add-ons.
Bodies that look as normal without gym-trained muscles as with.
Faces with enough polys to actually do some sculpting with.
Mapping that doesn't take a genius with extra tools to transfer photo textures to.
Realistic bending (good rigging in addition to weight mapping.)
Either scaling that works or the ability to have several versions that morph well at different ages.
Shoulders that do not contain silicone implants.
Pecs that don't either look like deflated breasts, or like flat planes grafted on.
Enough for openers, MLP?
The owners of Poser in the past had surveys where people asked for "real" looking people (warts and all) and their responce to "natural looking" people resulted in the hideous native Poser spawn we have now. I kind of think it's better to go for the heroic look out of the box with the morphs to "plain them down" when one needed an ordinary looking person. The thing I've found about most of the Poser community is that it's a place of fantasy fulfillment and if the more idealized human forms aren't possible with a figure it's not likely to sell well unless it's a specialized type of character.

I am not asking for a "plain" or "average" looking male. Just one that can be MADE into one should I desire.
For the record, David 3 was the most useful male character in my runtime. I just wish I had a version of him with all of M4's support plus good rigging and wight mapping!
And better face morphs ;) David is still my fave.

**Tomsde I agree.**Tomside - I agree. I would like figures to look pretty good out of the box. that is the secret to daz success (well some would say it is marketing but I say it is the figures)
MistyLara - you have fun. A staycation sounds great. I hope the new SM figure will be able to at least morph to what you want.

I agree David is probably the best and most versatile male figure Daz has produced to date. He did everything from anime, to a skinny teen, to a burly professional body builder. He had it all. I wish that Daz had continue his development. The Genesis version of David is nothing more than the anime teen look--of course one could add some muscles, but he still wouldn't look the same as the original figure.
Quote - > Quote - I think they're really making an effort to give us something nice, if they weren't they would have just let things go with Ryan.
No voilence necessary--if it's ugly we can design a paper bag prop for over his head and call him the "Mystery Man Tyler". Hey I give Smith Micro an A+ for listening to users and bringing us a new figure--espcially since they called Allyson and Ryan "new" figures since they weight mapped them and put a 2 after their names. It wasn't exactly what I'd have considered new, since they were the same mesh and all.
Or we could call him the Unknown Comic. Yikes, I really showed my age on that one ;)

Just spotted this paper bag prop in freestuff... and it reminded me of this thread...

For all those "Unknown Comic" tribute renders :-)
if only there was a nice naked picture in the zeroed position of Harrison Ford. or David Boreanaz
purely to use as a guideline, , not to drool on or anything
