Subject: Eco-Painter issue

myquad ( ) posted Mon, 04 June 2012 at 9:58 PM · edited Sun, 02 February 2025 at 4:50 PM

file_482062.jpg

I have been using the Eco-Painter, but when I use it it leaves all these blocks of color where I placed Eco-Painter objects.

These blocks of color completely block the view of the base picture I'm working on making it impossible to place other items in the scene.

I'm using Vue 10 Esprit Version 10.00-04  Build  100008893

My setting is OpenGl 2.1 (shader 4)  Max usable memory is set at 512.

16GB RAM, 64bit OS, AMD Quad core 3.2 GHz, 1TB harddrive.

I have an ATI Radeon HD 5570 video card.  While I have found that this video card isn't great for Vue, is there a setting I'm missing to prevent all these blocks of color while using the Eco-Painter?

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you,

Holly

go to 'file/options/display options/, tick the 'enable background draw' & turn the sliders up to at least halfway, then click 'ok'...u should then see the plants/objects instead of the boxes,,if u don't see plants/objects instead of boxes, turn the sliders up more...this will use more resources, tho.

as for the max useable mem, my gc card is 2 GB, so I set mine @2000..but if your card is 512, then you shouldn't go over that amount..

thanks for your suggestion, Mary.

I did as you instructed and actually slid the sliders all the way over without any change to the box issue.

It didn't change them at all.

do you have any other suggestions?

thanks so much for your quick response.

plse be specific as to what the  'Eco-Painter objects' are.....

myquad ( ) posted Mon, 04 June 2012 at 11:01 PM

both were grasses.  I used long grass, purchased from cornucopia and dry weeds which came with the program.

MaryHines ( ) posted Mon, 04 June 2012 at 11:04 PM

since you called them 'objects', I'm assuming they are 'static plants' & not '.veg' format...hang on n I'll check on something...not sure but there may be an option to use billboards in the viewport for them ...

in 'file/options/display options/, is 'Limit OpenGL Polygons to' unchecked ?

myquad ( ) posted Mon, 04 June 2012 at 11:09 PM

yes, it is unchecked.

MaryHines ( ) posted Mon, 04 June 2012 at 11:13 PM

and you applied it using the 'object' option when you added it to your eco? (you didn't use the 'plant' option?) & how many instances are there ?

myquad ( ) posted Mon, 04 June 2012 at 11:26 PM

yes, i clicked ecosystem, then the general tab, clicked the tree in the bottom corner, found the long grass and added it.  i then clicked paint and brought up the eco-painter pane.  chose brush and painted on my picture.

MaryHines ( ) posted Mon, 04 June 2012 at 11:30 PM

can u find the number of 'instances' ?

myquad ( ) posted Mon, 04 June 2012 at 11:32 PM

2059

MaryHines ( ) posted Mon, 04 June 2012 at 11:39 PM

k...that really isn't very many instances at all (compared to 100,000) , so I would say the amount of instances shouldn't be causing the box effect...but at this point, thats the only thing I can think of right now, that maybe your gc can't handle that many instances.... (Vue just doesn't sync well with ATI Radeon)

what u can try is save & close Vue ...reopen Vue and create a very small terrain (100x100) ...add the same plants to the defalt terrain mat...only use just 100 instances...see if it still presents as boxes

myquad ( ) posted Mon, 04 June 2012 at 11:42 PM

let me give that a try.

MaryHines ( ) posted Mon, 04 June 2012 at 11:43 PM

the 'long grass' I just noticed are  8000 polygons per clump of grass,,so that may be bogging down your gc @8000x2059...you may need to find a smaller poly grass to work with

myquad ( ) posted Mon, 04 June 2012 at 11:51 PM

it's still presenting as boxes with only 90 instances and default terrain mat.

myquad ( ) posted Mon, 04 June 2012 at 11:55 PM

i tried Carex at 2000 polygons and still presents with boxes

MaryHines ( ) posted Mon, 04 June 2012 at 11:59 PM

go to mat editor/general/display options/default quality/....what is it set to ? try setting it to shaded billboard if it isn't already...if it still boxes, try smooth billboard

myquad ( ) posted Tue, 05 June 2012 at 12:02 AM

where is the mat editor located?

thank you so much for you patience with me.

MaryHines ( ) posted Tue, 05 June 2012 at 12:06 AM · edited Tue, 05 June 2012 at 12:07 AM

glad to help :)

select the terrain, u'll see the mat preview window above (ontop of the little scene preview window) rightclick on the mat preview window & select 'edit material'

myquad ( ) posted Tue, 05 June 2012 at 12:16 AM

that worked great for the test render!

but, i don't know how to change the material editor with the original picture i have the issue with.  i'm populating on a piece of the model i brought in from daz studio.

MaryHines ( ) posted Tue, 05 June 2012 at 12:20 AM

''''''but, i don't know how to change the material editor with the original picture i have the issue with''

not sure what u mean ?

myquad ( ) posted Tue, 05 June 2012 at 12:22 AM

i got it!  there was a sub-menu under the particular obj.  i changed to smooth shaded and that fixed everything.

thank you so very much for all your help and patience.

i owe you a debt of gratitude.

MaryHines ( ) posted Tue, 05 June 2012 at 12:26 AM

Absolutely TheBryster,

Mary was so patient, helpful and walked me through every step.

I would have never been able to figure any of this out by myself.

An excellent forum and wonder helpful artists.
