I'm sure very patient & meticulous modelers could (& possibly have) modeled realistic people using only Bryce, but IMHO it would be EXTREMELY tedious & inefficient. This is not what Bryce was designed to do.
There are other modelers available for free or inexpensively if you don't like DAZ Studio. One free one that is suitable for modeling realistic people (which you could then import into Bryce) is Sculptris - you can get it at:

Another free program worth looking at is Makehuman, http://www.makehuman.org/ Posing the character can be difficult but good results can be achieved by exporting the character into Blender. There are many YouTube video tutorials to help too.

Sculptris can make some very realistic models. It allows you to model as with clay and has a fairly easy learning curve... but.... if you are modeling anything asymetrical it is tedious and once it is done - changing anything, say the position of an arm, would be near impossible without starting over with a new arm.

I thought as much making people in bryce is very very difficult I will definately try the Sculptris and makehuman as they sound ideal because Daz Studio 4 was not my cup of tea. I reckon the only way you could physically do it would be a symmetrical lattice (meta balls seem to crash bryce without fail at least on my computer).

It depends pretty much on how much time you have, how dexterous you are and I think how stubborn you are.

But yeah, other programs are probably much easier, zbrush if you can afford it, is very good at allowing you to do things like wrinkles and other in-depth (and high polygon) modelling.

Holy crap
That is amazing I have never seen animals like this in Bryce and only Bryce. The Best result I ever got was Alien Alan the Space Squid and he wasn't brilliant. The Bryce artists on this site are amazing absolutely amazing. Thank you for showing me.

Yeah I know what you mean - the best I've managed is a strange distorted looking face, meant to be a kind of cartoony thing, but I got bored with it pretty quickly, so I never got any further with that:

So I think that anyone who can make credible humans in just Bryce are obviously masters of the art.

I don't know what happened to our friend Humorix, but he hasn't posted since 2005. But as an introduction to his amazing work and method of creation take a look back at this thread (see link) where he demonstrated how he went about creating a horse/unicorn using mostly spheres. Sorry I meant your bug creature your avatar is it reminds me of a Siafu Art they are soldiers and the most nomadic ant on the planet and the male is also known as sausage fly. I do like humorixs ant as well its awesome. I remember when I made alan the alien squid he was a pain to make and i never really got better than him I will have to keep trying. Thanks

If you are actually looking for a way to create people just using the booleans objects in Bryce then you may want to take a look at my Astronauts that I use in all my pictures. I created all of those guys just using the booleans objects that come with Bryce. The only cheat that I used was the faces that I found somewhere online over 10 years ago. I wish I could remember where I got those faces becasue they had all the gear that the Apollo astronauts had from the helmet mics to the cap headphones. That did save a lot of time but all the other equipment, helmets, life support backpacks etc where created using booleans objects in Bryce. The biggest headach you will have is articulating those little boolean people to give them a natural pose so they don't look so stiff (especially the hands and fingers). Depending on the scene and what those little guys are doing can take up a lot of time so be prepaired for a lot of test rendering to get these guys just right. PATIENTS is the KEY WORD here, good luck and I hope that what I have said helps. If you like, you can go to my website or just visit my gallery here to see the astronauts that I am refering to.

Thank you for all the help you and every Bryce Artist for all the help you have given me since I started working in Bryce nearly 5 years ago. think I will definately do what you suggested Because I can't imagine how hard it must be to make faces in bryce using mainly Boolean. I am working on people for a space game called space rambles a guy called free wortley came to Solar Voyager asking for help with space ships and space realated art for the video game he is making and I am making ships, Cockpits, Engines and people. Oh I was meaning to ask do you know the name of the solar system book your work is on I would like to buy it in Cambridge sometime( I live close to Cambridge)

Let me interject here on the use of symmetrical lattices. In my limited experience thus far, it is possible to use a symmetrical lattice to make a human figure in Bryce by selecting the picture option in the deep terrain editor and navigating to a photo or other picture you have available and clicking on it to load it onto the lattice. There are some problems with using this method, however:
A) The quality of of the shape will not match that of the original as the deep terrain editor creates height maps with darker colors representing low elevations and light colors reprsenting the higher ones. Therefore, if there are any shadows in the image that are in some odd places, (like maybe the shadow of a flagpole across the face of someone), it will distort the shape of that face as a dent in it.
B) The symmetrical lattice is a shape that has a mirrored copy of the shape of one side on its other side. This means that when you load a picture onto it, you will have a mirrored shape loaded onto the back side. Unless you are trying to make a figure of Janus the god with two faces, this could be a problem.
C) Any figure you make using this method will not have the textures or materials on them that make them look realistic. The best you can do is use this to make a statue, and because of the symmetry of the shape, you would need to keep one side toward the camera or view window.
D) There is no way to pose a single mesh object other than rotating the whole through the X, Y, and Z axes.

As others have said, its time consuming and tedious.
Make a linked posable skeleton with cylinders as bones and spheres as joints.
always start with the parent joint......shoulder joint moves whole arm, elbow joint moves forearm and hand, wrist, fingers, etc.
chest sphere as parent. when it moves, whole upper body moves. Shoulder joint spheres and neck joint spheres and head are linked to chest sphere.
Chest sphere is linked to a midsection and waist sphere. Waist sphere is the main parent...when it moves everything moves.
Hip joint spheres attached to waist spheres with legs attached same as arms.
Skin it with metaballs, link each metaball to its proper skeletal cylinder.
When posed with joint sphere, metaskin will conform in a satisfactory way.
Works better for nonhuman creatures. Humans have too detailed fetures for Bryce.

Hi Everyone
Does anyone here know of a way to make realisitic people in Bryce and Bryce only(I can't get on with Daz Studio 4) I don't even know if it is possible if anyone knows of a site for a tutorlial of how to do it could you let me know please.
