Subject: Applying SSS globally

EricofSD ( ) posted Thu, 07 June 2012 at 9:40 PM · edited Mon, 07 October 2024 at 6:11 PM

I realize that shift and adding subsurface applies the node to the entire object.

I don't like the default settings though.  I want to change the blinn and fastscatter, etc. but when I do the change has to be made to every object part (which is time consuming).

Is there a way to reset the default to a custom and then shift click or a way to make my changes and attach those to the entire object?

Thanks in advance.

Oh, I am using P8

You can click the small arrow in the upper right hand of the mat room and "apply to all"... but realize that will create the SAME shader on all body materials. You will then have to go back and manually change the image maps back again.

Best to select the fast scatter node in the advanced section and CTRL+C then CTRL+V and manually hook it up... then rinse repeast with the blinn.

And you can't use SSS with P8 - it's a new feature in P9 and P2012

doesn't it still have a fastscatter...? even thought it doesn't do the same thing? I know SSS is the new feature in p9... but i thought it still had a node in the menu for fastscat.

The 'SSS' wacro has been there at least since Poser 7. True SSS came out in P9/pp2012..

I realize that P8 and prior does not have true SSS.  I used to adjust the transparency in P4 to get almost the same effect, but if 2012Pro has true photon mapping, then I'll gladly upgrade.

Thanks for the tips. I'll give them a try.

For P8 I would recommend bagginsbill’s VSS. You need to spend some time learning how to use it, but the results are much better.

VSS is a pythong script to apply shader settings to one, many or all figures/props in the scene. It comes with a default skin shader which is by far, in my opinion, the best skin shader for P8 and bellow. It fakes SSS quite well.
