Subject: Request for and another Request for! Note*Black Women/Men

FutureFantasyDesign ( ) posted Sun, 24 June 2012 at 5:30 PM · edited Wed, 06 November 2024 at 12:02 PM

Hi,

I own a LOT of content, I am looking to find all of my Black Characters. Unfortunately, I cannot search using key words "Black Women" or "Black Men".  This makes it extremely difficult to find these since I have so many characters for poser. But I own enough Men and Women of Color to warrant their own folder.

Would it be so un-PC to use this as a keyword vendors? For search purposes?

Second request is besides P3D, Reciecup and one character from Godin, does anyone have a list of who else does black characters? I own about 17.

Thank you all so very much! :)

Yes I was hoping that someone else could just recall some names... I look in my history and darned if I want to go through 2700 orders to find that odd one off character that I have... I know that there is another vendor who does predominantly Black Characters, but I can't recall the name(s)!!! :(

I found one by GypsyAngel, so that narrows it down to 16! :P LOL!!!

ThanX Kristi!!!

Well, at least you found another.

You can always email me the list you have and in my spare time, I can do some digging.

It may take a little while but you know I will take care of you 😄

I dare to push this back into front by suggesting to add the keyword "ethnic" into the list. I use this for my afro-american and asian characters but, unfortunatly, it doesn't lead to them. So it seems that the keyword, when added to the "free" list we can create, doesn't work (does this list work at all?).

So why not add "ethnic", "afro", "afro-american" "asian", "caucasian" to the list of keywords we can choose from. This should be good for many clothes, hairstyles and 2d-products as well. Maybe even a theme called "ethnic" would be a way to go. There are so many things offered that are "region-specific" that there should be a lot of content now and in future to fit into it that it should not be empty for a long time.

Oh, by the way: If any of the mentioned keywords already exists - sorry, I overlooked it.

I'm not always right, but my mistakes are more interesting!

And I am not strange, I am Limited Edition!

I agree! There is nothing wrong with celebrating diversity, and by naming it as it stands... Black Characters, Asian Characters, Hispanic Characters and so on! I think it could even open up a new market!!!

Hispanic, good, I forgot about the term - and as I am not a native speaker I am always a bit afraid to choose the wrong term. But at least with regions/countries/continents you can't go wrong. And just think about all those arabian belly dancers, thai-dresses, kimonos, geisha hair-do's and... and... we have in the marketplace!

I like ethnic characters and clothes a lot as well (as long as they are not silly caricatures, but I did not see one for a long, long time) and as no one would be affronted if someone sells a girl with blonde braids, tulips and clogs as "dutch" or a woman with a beer, a pretzel and a dirndl as "german" (although these are clichés) I very much hope that it is okay to call a  character with dark skin, curly hair and a colorful kaftan "african" as well (although it is a cliché as well - but a beautiful one).

SaintFox you might like this outfit! It is asian inspired, but honestly it is very close to a true Kimono style. http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?ViewProduct=90026

I would put some form of Tank top under it and also this is a nice oriental feel without too much fantasy thrown in>>>

Okay, give me an hour *LOL*

This is what I had in mind, this is the free V4 Furisode from poserclub.net - authentic (IMHO) and most of all natural looking. Okayokay, no fancy materials, no specific light. I should have used a silk-shader instead but didn't want to make a day from "some minutes" 😉

But this is what I would tag with "ethnic" and "asian".

yes.

'black' is apparently non-pc now, but calling someone white remains perfectly acceptable.

i was called a racist for naming my nappy afro hair 'Nappy Fro', and then again when i renamed it to 'Kinky Fro'.

people can choose to get offended over everything, even stupid unimportant stuff. like women getting offended over the word 'manhole cover' and insisting it be renamed personhole cover

FutureFantasyDesign ( ) posted Tue, 17 July 2012 at 12:13 PM

Hi I talked to a friend who just happens to be black... she says that it is the context that is offensive, not the name. Say you are refering to a beautiful black woman, non-offensive to a large majority of african americans, but she also said if someone did get offended by a term like this they were just plain ignorant...! So in her opinion, she would not be offended.

On the other hand if it was used as an epitath like '...that stupid black b****!' it would be extremely offensive. Like DUH!

Now as for what Gabe refered to.... shame Gabe for even considering nappy... very offensive to all african americans because of the slave conotations and predjudice, but it was most likely an oversite. Also Fro is no longer (*well while not PC) used, it is called a Natural. o0 I had a Fro in the 60's.... :P

But you are right people can be offended about anything if they decide it offends them! So damned if you do.... etc.

Ahhhh... the nappy thing. I have the feeling that I got it completely wrong. I took "nappy" as the little sleep you take in between (after lunch for instance) - and so took the hairstyle as a so-called (and completely political correct) "out of bed style" - I mean: That's the way it looks!

About "black": I am exchanging messages for a long time with some people here and meanwhile I'm connected with some over facebook. So I saw that some are black, some saw that I am white - from some I did not even know if they are male or female. So far I did not get any negative reactions when I wrote to them and said: Hey, you are black! (or: a woman/a man). It's nothing more or less than this for me "So far I did not have an idea how you may look like - now I have!". But okay, "black" is, in our context, so unspecific and can also be used for a black dress, that more specific terms would be better. I myself have a slight problem with african-american (because it leaves pure african out - what may be important in the case of fashion especially).

The kimono: It is available at www.poserclub.net - it is not easy to register there (but there is a how-to here: http://www.poserclub.net/index2.php?option=com_wrapper&view=wrapper&Itemid=75).

Off of that Google translator did a pretty good job when I needed to translate small sentences to find out what can be found where.

The Kimono itself can be found here:

http://www.poserclub.net/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=45&Itemid=61&limitstart=10

It is called V4 Furisode and is made by Hiasyan, tend the same model for other figures. They have gorgeous authentic clothes there, many of them dynamic, all for free.

By the way: You like belly-dance? Explore the store of CJ-studio here. All you need and more with lots of cool dynamic things, even jewelry!

Okay... I see, this is going of topic but is nevertheless amusing.

nappy is an adjective in the english language.

kinky natural african hair is nappy. people should be no more offended by the term than if someone calls my hair straight, or my skin pale. its a simple fact.

if you think about it its downright absurd that people are calling someone who spent weeks working on creating an attractive female minority and trying to bring it to the mainstream a racist. ffs its not like i created a golliwog.  the fact is some people would complain no matter what i did -- had i released her with a blonde weave youd have people bitching that she wasnt 'black enough'.

you just cant win.  after i renamed it 'kinky fro' people started complaining about kinky.  at this point i dont even care.  if anyone is offended by my terminology they are welcome to not buy the product.

SaintFox ( ) posted Tue, 24 July 2012 at 10:22 PM

Ah, thanks for clarifying the term nappy to me, I mixed it up with "nap" and this way immediatly thought about the so called "out of bed" style - you can as well call it fluffy, the kind of hairdo that Meg Ryan made so popular. I think what you call nappy is called "kraus" in Germany and it means lots of really tiny curls. So to me it has nothing to do with racism, it's nothing more or less than a hair stucture like curly, straight, wavy and so on. My dad has nappy hair for instance, when he was young he would have been able to wear a hairstyle like Jimmy Hendrix but as he is white and was gray early it would have looked strange 😉

I feel your frustration and I am afraid that "Shae-Hair" or something like that nwould have been the only way to name it neutral enough even for the most picky fellows. In fact that's why I tend to name my Makeups either with the name of towns or with things that are of the same color (fruits, gems...). But don't care too much, it's impossible to please everybody and it's the intention that counts.

"Nappy" redirects to "Diaper" when used as the search word at Wikipedia, as it is British slang.  As for using a Nappy Fro in Poser, aside from a college boy wearing one on his head at a drunken party, . . . :p

"Nappy Hair" redirects to "Afro-textured Hair."  It has a long article that includes other common terms used to describe that type ot hair, including "kinky." :)

SaintFox ( ) posted Sat, 28 July 2012 at 12:38 PM

But I am right that a "nap" is a little slumber? That was why I got the idea of the out-of-bed hairstyle.
