I wonder how many meetings, committees, sub committees and steering groups it took to come up with that gem.

I wonder if the fire constantly occurs at the same place in your town, obviously the firemen dont need a direction where to go.

If thats the case i think they better close that building, its dangerous.....

Good one. One of my favourites was a government form that said at the top... "If you can not read this - please find someone to help you"

My favorite one was "do not turn package over". It was written on the bottom...

In the States they advise one to get out of the building before calling the Fire Department...

Hm, and here I thought the emergency number was 0118 999 881 999 119 7253... ..and don't forget to dial 9 for an outside line:) Which is actually true in some offices. So they have signs above signs telling you that!

They also advise you to not open a door (put your hand on the door first to see if it's hot) if you think there is a fire on the other side  and you want to check why the smoke alarm is going off in the other room.

I learned that the hardway about 8 years ago. The result was not fun at all.

The advice is also not to use the palm of your hand, but the back instead. The reason being that if you are sweating, your ability to feel the heat may be impaired on the palm, and also that if the door is very hot, you risk burning your palm, which you may need to help you climb down an escape ladder out of a building.

Why to use the back of your hand!

To feel for heat or electricity or anything dangerous.

For the first muscular reaction for a hand is to close.

Content Advisory! This message contains profanity

This is supposed to be a popular myth but I swear it is true.  I can vouch for it because I saw it myself.

Some years back I bought a large drum of salted peanuts from Sainsbury's (a British grocery chain) and on the label it said: WARNING!  Contains nuts.

Well fuck me, I thought it would contain oysters or guinea pigs.

LOL

Last pack of salted guinea pigs I got from Waitrose bore the sign: "WARNING! May contain animal hair".

I was glad of the warning... I'm allergic to animal hair. I could have had a pretty bad sneezing fit and some really itchy, runny eyes if I'd bought that stuff...

I can relate to Sam here. I was eating a pack of nuts and saw on the back "warning: may contain nuts" and first I thought well duh probably anyone who didn't know this from the front label isn't picking out their own food. Then I thought, wait a minute, MAY? What do you mean may? And what am I eating if not nuts?
