I decided that I am still lacking when  it comes to modelling, so I went with doing a second skin texture map and displacement. I still have some tweaking to do, especially around the emblem on his chest. And I will still have to model the cowl and his gloves and boots. And I will redo the belt and not use the BLLE for Ryan belt.

Batman can have all kinds of looks. Just because one didn't "work" (?) doesn't mean something else won't! He is one of the few characters that can "carry" multiple, diverse, often seemingly contradictory styles and make them all look good. Like what you're showing there! I applaud you out of pure respect plus I LOVES ME SOME BATS!!!

Thank you. I am going for something in between the '66 Adam West and the '89 Micheal Keaton Batman. I got the cowl done, but it looks like a pumkin on his head because I tried to cover his ears. I will figure that out one of these days...

I like what you have done so far. I don't think your modeling is lacking, my only thought would be that the bat emblem is a bit to small. It will be great to see your finished product. Thanks for sharing.

Well, thank you for those kind words. I decided to take the suit in a different direction. I was inspired by Samtherapy's suit that was posted in another thread I started with my first Batman attempt. This is far from final, but I am happy with it so far. I just need to clean up the image I am using for the displacement so I can get rid of the dark shadows on the bottom of the emblem.

I'm always looking for a good batman I just purchased strigoi draguul and manbat figure I'd have them argue over the value of bats. after a minute of their side of the vampire side I figure I'd have batman walk in and give a more realistic side. scare people into realizing real bats aren't scary and if one is in the house just take a box put over it with a piece of cardboard and take it outside. DON'T KILL IT. oh i'm kind of the batman of Tulsa, keep working on it you might just have a customer.  feeding time for my bats I rehabilitate them have 4 mouths too feed woops there goes another 100 mealworms.

Nice so far.  You consider the Year One utility belt.  Basically, an army surplus cartridge belt.  Watch the self glow on the materials, it just doesn't look right.

Chalk me up as another Batman fan.  You're doing some nice work there, Rokket.

As Larry F said, there's more than one look for Bats; the official line is he has lots of different style costumes and picks whichever is appropriate at the time.

It's strange to think such a central figure in the DC canon doesn't have a very restrictive style guide, as most characters tend to have.  The only time I've seen anything approaching a style guide is within the animated versions and even that changes from season to season.

Thank you. I goofed when I was in the material room and added a yellow tint to the specular. I've taken that off. I am still flipping back and forth about which utility belt to use.

That means a lot coming from you.

Anyhow, I got a prelim cowl done. Same problem as before. It looks like a big bowling ball on his head. I think it's because of the shape of James' head. I am planning on reworking it tonight and see what I can fix. I am also not too keen on what I came up with for the ears.

Back to square one with it!

You should consider the cowl first and the head second, since most of it will be hidden inside the cowl.  You could, for example, morph it down considerably so a normal looking cowl fits without poke through.

It doesn't help that James has an enormous, lightbulb shaped head anyhow.

I am working on that angle right now. And yeah, his head is HUGE. I didn't realize it going in. I tried the other male characters in Poser: Simon, Ryan, and even Don and the Project Human male. James just seemed to fit the best as Bruce Wayne/Batman. I will see what I can do with his head. I may end up doing it as a second skin with the ears as props if I can't scale it down enough to not look abnormal.

The problem I ran into right away is that morphed the cowl down and his ears stuck out the sides of the cowl. I managed to do a pose that hides that, but if I am going to animate him or do any other poses where he turns his head.... I am going to insert his FBM and see what happens if I morph it all down.

I am getting close to something I can be proud of. I changed the texture on his suit and on the belt. I also darkened the cape and gloves. I am going to move on to his boots before I tackle that cowl again.

Any suggestions for the boots? Should I go with something stylized or simple? There are impact pads on the gloves but they are hard to see. I may do a render to show them.

Here is a quick look at him with his boots on. I decided to finish them tonight and start on the cowl tomorrow. I have a lot of stuff to work out with that. I have to make it fit but not look like a bowling ball, and I have to do justice to the ears.

Wish me luck...

He's looking pretty nice so far. It is a shame about the shape of his head, it just doesn't seem to fit right with the rest of him does it? I think, if you can manage to find a fix for that, you'll be well on the way with him. Maybe a touch longer ears, with a slightly blunter point to them, but I'm just being a picky little git now, lol! :p

Yeah, his head is giving me fits. I thought about doing a complete character from scratch, but the only modelling program I have that can do that is Blender, and I haven't had enough time with it to be any good at all. In fact I never use it. I am going to be touching up some of his parts soon. I will extend the ears and round them off a little at the top. I am working on Nightwing at the same time. It's how I do things. I can't concentrate on one project too long, as I lose interest. But I find that if I am working on another one at the same time, I get little doses of inspiration for the other.

Thank you for your time and comments!

I like the look of the suit so far.  It's an interesting take to have the bat symbol in a light colour, which is usually the province of female Bat-characters.  Still, it looks good.

Bearing in mind all this is just my opinion but... I have always preferred either the idea of a single colour for the entire costume, rather than having the suit different from the cape, gloves etc.  In fact, Bob Kane originally wanted to have the character in red!  Since he's supposed to be of the night, lurking in shadows and so forth, I believe the less colour and contrast, the better.  I know it doesn't necessarily translate well to a comic book page but it's more "realistic", if you can use such a word regarding Batman.

FWIW, I think Nolan's interpretation is the best one ever, in terms of look, style and practicality.

As for the choice of model, why not use one of the DAZ guys?  Mike 2 or 3 work well as Bats.

Sounds interesting! (I jest)

Anyway; I agree that Mike might end up making a reasonable Batman. Have you tried using Mike's head and maybe using magnets or something to fit the neck areas together? I've no idea how the two compare, so I really don't know if it's possible, but it's just a thought.

I too like the look of the lighter symbol; it's a good contrast! Oh, and don't forget black eye makeup, lol!

I also get what you're saying about working on more than one project at a time. I always do that and for the same reasons, it seems! Especially if the two are linked in some way, you can basically have them help one another along. When creating characters, this seems to be very good practice, as you don't really end up with one character from a month ago looking absolutely awful compared to one you've just made, as the things you learn on one character, yo can apply almost right away to the other. If you get what I mean.

Anyway, great work, I'll be watching this! Perhaps we can get a look at a new Spider-Man character from someone in the community soon too! :)

I don't own any of them unfortunately. When I bought Poser I made a promise to my better half that I wouldn't sink too much money into it. That's why I have Wings 3D, Blender, and GIMP 2.6. They are free. I only have the models that come with Poser 9 right now, and of course, Antonia. I don't know if Mike 2 or 3 are free, because I haven't really been on DAZ's site. But I do know that you need to purchase the morphs packages for V3 or 4, and if the same is true for Mike or any of the other DAZ products, I won't get them.

I am happy with what I have so far. I wasn't trying to recreate an already established Batman, I wanted a unique take on him. But as far as Spiderman is concerned, I believe the available characters are too tall and weigh too much to be good as Spidey. He's around 5'7 and 130lbs. He is basically Bruce Lee's size. Someone would have to model him from scratch, and that's beyond my current capablities.

I tried out that "tweak" once before and I didn't like the results. My Batman is a younger version, so his size is in line with that. I always thought that Batman should be a little leaner, like Christian Bale, so that he could pull off the stunts that he does.

I may try Simon as Batman later on to see how he looks. I know his head isn't as weird shaped (see my avatar) as I did a superhero with him once before.
