Subject: moving multiple objects as one

iborg64 ( ) posted Wed, 25 July 2012 at 1:01 PM · edited Fri, 02 August 2024 at 7:21 AM

I have stonemasons city ruins which consist of buildings plus mutiple parts for rubble brings etc , i wish to use several sets but they all start in the same postion is it posible to load one set of ruins and then move them as a job lot so to speak and then load a second lot and do the same again? I tried save a set as obj file that allowed me to move everything as one but everything renders in shades of grey what happened to the colours

when I saved as obj (actually exported) I left everything at default settings in pop up boxes

using poser 2012

thanks for any help any one can offer

The best way that I have found to do that is if you go under properties in the objects section and select "Set Parent"  You'll be able to set parents to various items to be able to move around as one.

However, if you select part of the curb I believe it will highlight everything for you so you won't have to go the long way to do it.  😄

Find 'Grouping Object' in the manual and take it from there...

not haveing much luck this way trying to parent so many parts and some just jump to unexpected places any idear where all the colours went when it was saved as an obj ?

load the obj into vue and it works fine maybe thats the way to go ?

save all as obj and put together and render in vue

You have various choices. Assuming these are props, you can parent every part to to one part, then moving that one part will move all the other parts (If you want you can lock all the parts except for that one main part). You can then use 'Select Subset' when saving to save all the parts to one pp2 (prop) file.

You can load a figure that has only one part, the BODY actor, parent all the parts to the BODY, then save the figure back  to the Figures palette. Such a BODY only is "MinFig", available from my free stuff.

You can export all the parts as one obj file. Seems like you already tried that, but it did not work as desired. The default Export Options settings will not preserve the grouping. Try exporting using only "Include existing groups in polygon groups" (see attached image).

The props are already parented to be able to move as "whole job"

On city ruin 01 select cr2ground_1
on city ruin 02 select cr1ground_1
