Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 25 12:38 pm)

Subject: Poser hates my object. It even hates its own version of my object

Paloth ( ) posted Sun, 29 July 2012 at 2:11 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 10:14 PM

I intended to test a texture on a hair prop that I created for Poser. Poser crashes during obj. import. The obj. has uvs and material zones. If I load it in Zbrush and export an obj, Poser can load it, provided that the material zones are dropped. If I preserve the uvs/material zones with uv mapper and reattach them to the Zbrush obj Poser will crash. If I save a dae version of the hair prop from Modo, Poser can load successfully as Collada; however, if I export the Collada hair prop from Poser as an obj. and then attempt to import back in, Poser will crash.

Why me, why me, why does it have to be me??....

what's the poly count on the model?

maybe try loading it into wings3d and then export it back out from there as an obj and see if that works.

poser may be having trouble with the zb materials. do you have the most recent SR?

Open the OBJ file in a text editor and scroll through looking for "odd" characters. Similar for the MTL file.

I have had instances where UVMapper has had a fit of the caniptions and spilled ink on the file.

9256

It might be worth installing wings3d just to see if that will work.

I have 9.0.2.21561. Is that the latest?

That took a while, but I didn't find anything*.

if I remember right, you need to remove the MTL file from the import folder so Poser does not see it.

I vaguely remember UVmapper sometimes screwing up the material names and that casuing poser to have problems, and infact wings etc.

I've tried saving the obj. out of Wings and deleteing the mtl. Nothing works. I can get the obj. to load in Poser if I unify the material zones. Any attempt to create more than one material for this object in Modo will produce an obj. that crashes Poser. The same happens if I create more than one part.

It might be possible to assemble this in Poser by loading distinct objs for each material zone, but that is a slovenly way to go about it. This should not be happening in a rational software universe.

I just tried loading the obj. in Daz Studio. It works perfectly, but the obj. saved out won't load in Poser.

At this point I've established that the hair obj. will open in Modo, Maya, Wings, Zbrush, UV Mapper and Daz Studio. Only Poser has a problem with it.

My old computer retains an installation of Poser 5 so I fired it up and tried to load the hair obj. It loaded perfectly, so I saved the obj. from Poser 5 and brought it  back to load in iPoser Pro 2012 64bit. Poser crashed.

This post could be titled more accurately as "Poser Pro 2012 64 hates my obj."

I'd be happy to take a look at the file if required.

Thanks, but that might not be necessary since I've just discovered that it is impossible to import any obj. with material zones or parts at the moment; EVEN objs. in the geometry folder that still load as figures and props from the library. It's beginning to look like my installation of Poser has been corrupted.

I might have to try a reinstall tomorrow.

That would be my conclusion also.

i returned to this thread after reading earlier to mention that when libraries is open, sometimes import and delete functions don't work correctly and can crash the program.  so i always make sure libraries is closed when doing those two things.  i think it might be an update thing.  the host program for it....i forgot what it's called but it wants to update every single day.  so irritating.  not poser mind you but the thing the libraries runs on.  i guess i should update it but why encourage that kind of behavior //

go that way really fast.
if something gets in your way
