I want to sign up for a free account, and I note that existing free account holders can get an additional 500MB if they refer someone. So, does someone want to refer me and get a freebie boost to their storage? No point in wasting it. ;)

I've got a free Google Drive, M$ Skydrive and Dropbox...don't need the extra, but thanks!  You'll enoy it!  You get most storage with Skydrive, but Dropbox is easiest, imo.

You know that dropbox leaked their user emails?

I believe the actual problem was that a user was less that careful with their own account details and allowed others to gain access. Once in to that person's account they were able to get that person's files, one of which contained their contacts email addresses and other data.

Dropbox and many other sites have always promoted password safety. Basics such as not to leave your laptop open and accessible where someone (a co-worker?) might take advantage of it. Do not use easy to guess passwords. Do not use the same password on different sites.

They, and other similar sites suggest that sensitive data should be encrypted before uploading.

Basic common sense really.

Not a user, Phil.  A staff member.  Oh dear.

hmm a bad staff member can happen to any firm. Dropbox, MS, RO, any.. if they take appropriate measures in light of this, I'm not worried about using Dropbox..
