Yes.

Maybe this article from the Renderosity frontpage gives a hint:

Reality 3 for Poser Coming Soon!

... This Add-on Framework, released in Poser 9/Pro 2012 SR3,...

Reality 3 for Poser is scheduled to be released in November 2012

Forget what I said. I think foxylady had the right answer (= later this month).

Note to self: Stop reading 2 or more articles simultaneously, you WILL get confused!

monkeycloud ( ) posted Thu, 09 August 2012 at 8:39 AM

That is good news about the splotchies hopefully.

Can I ask if you had set IC < 100 in those renders, BB? Or were you rendering without the Irradiance Caching enabled?

If that information is only available on pain of death though, I'm sure I can wait till later this month.

😉

bagginsbill ( ) posted Thu, 09 August 2012 at 10:57 AM

Brute force, no irradiance cache. The artifacts come from IC, not IDL. Speed also came from IC. Brute force is slower but not as slow as sr2 was. So the change is a switch to turn off IC (was possible nothing new there except convenience) and a reduced penalty for doing that.

Cool. Well, it's the reduced penalty that's the most interesting bit of course.

I really have to use IC for speed just now... not using it at present is just that bit toooo slow... at least for my stupidly complex scenes.

😉

bagginsbill ( ) posted Thu, 09 August 2012 at 11:51 AM · edited Thu, 09 August 2012 at 11:51 AM

It's not a total solution. For some scenes it's 2 days reduced to a few hours.

For other scenes, it's like 3 months reduced to 2 weeks. Still too long.

Personally, I just take it as a limitation of the tool - I can't do certain kinds of image, so I don't. Now there are a few more kinds I can do, but the big boys still have places they can go where I cannot.

If I'm going to into multi-day rendering territory, I will head back to Lux and get a lot of other goodies for the hit.

Bagginsbill,

May I ask where you got that bed?

bagginsbill ( ) posted Mon, 13 August 2012 at 11:24 AM

It's the next piece of bedroom furniture Tom and I are working on.

This time it has really good satin, cotton, and metallic cloth shaders. The wood is an afterthought but you do get three more.

It was about to go into the store, but Tom decided the comfortor was not simmed right so he's doing it again - and the pillows I think.

Is the comforter going to be dynamic?

bagginsbill ( ) posted Mon, 13 August 2012 at 12:24 PM · edited Mon, 13 August 2012 at 12:25 PM

Yes. Tom is doing a hybrid system here. He is preparing the comforter in various common arrangements, using his cloth sim in 3DS Max. The bed figure will include several of these, which you can show/hide at will. As well, he will provide the comforter and top sheet as props that you can sim yourself. This would be needed if you want people under them, for example.

Note: I'm not sure how Tom is managing to get the comforter to be so "poofy". I don't know if that will be possible in Poser's cloth sim.
