Subject: OT Strange Links in the Poser Gallery

hornet3d ( ) posted Fri, 24 August 2012 at 11:31 AM · edited Sat, 08 February 2025 at 11:51 AM

What is it with the liks that are now appearing with the texts in some of the submissions  to the Poser gallery.  One took me off to an competion for an iPhone.  Are the liks on the site or is something happening on my PC.

In this one some words are bold and underlined, at least they are to me.  If I add then here they seem to copy the link

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

Hornet3d, I don't see what you see.  I get just plain text.  Could you have a virus?

Looks that way but the weird think is it appears on both of my PC's and only appears to affect the Rendo site, at the moment at least.  I have run a virus scan but found nothing so I will have to try and run some other scans.

I don't see anything unusual at that gallery image. Where EXACTLY are the links?

3anson ( ) posted Fri, 24 August 2012 at 11:48 AM

is it by chance from 'Text-Enhance'?

if so you have an infection.

just google the above name( Firefox doesn't let me copy/paste links here)

hornet3d ( ) posted Fri, 24 August 2012 at 11:51 AM

Yep, if I hover over the words 'text enhance' comes up.  I will google as you suggest -

Thanks

They are in the body of the text.  Sometimes they are bold, but if you hover on them, they will take you somewhere else.  I ended up on some strange site a few years ago.  I was looking to see if anyone had ever made a WWII dress uniform for an officer in the Navy from both the US and the UK.  I got a result that looked promising, but when I clicked on it, it was not where I wanted to be.  It had a whole bunch of those strange bold words.  I googled and found out that you should never click on them and no reputable site intentionally puts them there.  It was a virus and get rid of it asap.

Thankfully, I have never seen it again.  Certainly, it would not be something coming from Renderosity.

Thanks for all the help.  I have at least surpressed the problem but there seems to be some dispute as if this is a virus or not.  Certainly a couple of the anti-virus programs cannot see it.  In the end I have used the Adblock extension in Chrome.

foxylady is right though in that it does not come from the site and is PC dependant it is just that Rendo is the site I use the most.  I am sure it would have appeared on others if I had not surpressed it.

I had a customer who had this problem with Rendo's site mail. This is the link one of the Site Admin gave me to send to them..

Thanks Ravyns, I had managed to block it by using Ad Blocker but I was uneasy as this did not remove the files in question.  As it is a browser extension it is not seen as a virus by an number of anti-virus programs, I found out the hard way.  The link you provided has a much more complete list of the names this particular extension goes under and it is a long list.  From this I have now been able to identify and un-installed the extension and taken a number of the precautions suggested.

Thanks again.
