Subject: I'm not a techie...need help w/ Poser

Poser keeps crashing whenever I have more than one Vicki in the scene. Sometimes it crashes when I try to use the Nicole hair with Vicki. (Also using high-res textures on Vicki) Is this a memory allocation problem? I don't know alot about the technical aspects of Poser & would be grafeful for any help. Specs: 800 mhz Celeron, 128 MB Ram. I don't know how much memory is allocated to Poser as I don't see where in Poser you can change the preferences.

This probably isn't Poser related. Vicki is very processor intensive (it's a large file). And If you are using Vicki2 which has special remote joint controlls. You'll need to add a null character to the scene to be able to have more than one in the scene. There is information about that on CuriousLabs web site. ScottA

I can just (barely!) get 4 Vickies in a scene with 256Mb, so I would guess you are on the edge with 2 and 128Mb. You can't allocate memory on a PC, only Macs have that problem (!) but you can try messing around with your virtual memory, set it to manual and try different settings, and perhaps pic a partition that isn't to fragmented. It is in the Sytem control panel if memory (!) serves.

Thanks all. I saw another thread related to this and someone suggested getting Cacheman from ZDNet. I did and now I have 4 Vicki's in the scene with only occassional crashes. (I'm doing a Vicki intensive render for the gallery.) I haven't tried rendering it with all 4 yet, just with 3 and it works beautifully. I was really surprised! I'll probably have to save different versions of the PZ3 with only 2-3 Vics in each, render them all & then paste together in PSP. But at least I can compose the scene now without too many crashes. Thanks again for your help.

For those slower computers (like my 266p2) I was doing a poster for a music competition. Showed room with 4 rows of three chairs each and three characters in each row all turning around to hush someone on their cell phone. I used paste as background. several times. For the position I just copied the body and pasted on to new character and just used the x axes to slide them over to their own chair.
