Sci Fi Funk Episode 6 “Right Place, Wrong Time”

Now we get stuck in with “proper” animating wih mocap, hand editing, camera moves, lighting, and lipsync all to a glorious (run down) backdrop of London 2064ad.

This is my second animation in Carrara having moved up from the Daz 3d software in early 2011. As a Carrara animator you are still tied to Daz via aniblocks (preset mocap) due to it’s superior blending and editing over the built in NLA editor in Carrara.

Don’t get me wrong this also has blending and some excellent facilities (it was supposed to replace the animate plug in for daz), it’s just – well you try both and see what you think.

Anyway to the plot.

Our hero (Steve Malore) finds himself in a run down (neglected) part of london. It is in fact based on a real street in Dagenham (Wantz Road). I took some artistic liberties to make it work with the plot, but I wnted a fairly realisitic flyover scene (episode 7), so location scouting (using googlestreet view) was essential here.

In fact it took 1 month (off an on) to find the location! originally I was going to start in Rainham, but my roots involve Dagenham so this seemed more approriate (write from what you know).

The animation uses (preset) mocap extensively (which i’ve played aroudn with to make it unique), and my own hand editing.

I hope you enjoy.

I loved it. Usually people get the video right and the sound wrong. Or the sound is right and the video is wrong. You have done both quite well. Congratulations.

Free men do not ask permission to bear arms!!
