Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 15 2:13 am)
I don't know about books about 3DS Max, but most of the books I know don't deal with this subject. You'll be told to look at various tutorials. My advice is to find all the tutorials on the subject you can. (None of them are "complete". There is so much to making clothing that that would be a small book in itself. ) Glean what info you can and apply it to how 3DS works. The first clothing I made, I thought my head was going to explode, with everything I was learning. Its still not "easy", but maybe that's just me. Here are a few tutorials to look for, that are not necessarily on this site. Nerd's conforming figures Bloodsong Joint Parameters Steve Shank's cr2 editing I think it was Thorne who did one with a teddy bear. Okay people, help me out, what other tutorials are there out there. Good luck. :)
If you can find it at your local newsstand, check out a mag called 3D Artist (www.3dartist.com) by Columbine, Inc. They've started doing more & more pieces on Poser, and Issue#44, the latest I've found has quite a bit about modeling clothes in poser. 2 Poser articles by Cecilia Ziemer, & one on 3DSMax flowing dresses by Robert Undi. Sells for US $5.00 on newsstands, & usually a pretty good read. My only complaint is they'll have anywhere from a paragraph to a column left over from most stories & then gather them together onto one or 2 pages toward the back.(makes it difficult for article clippers like me to keep clippings organized) They also like to start their final article on the back page of the mag & continue it further forward (ala Scientific american brain teasers) Most annoying affectation for a national mag. (sorry about all the detail, #44 just happened to be laying at my elbow when I read this thread) :) Jerry B
Wow thanks for the reference to this magazine. I'm in Quebec, Canada but hopefully I'll be able to find this magazine among all the French ones. lol I was just really frustrated that there was no full information on this subject. Everywhere I looked, either there was not enough information, or the link to the tutorial was dead. I realize it's a pretty intensive project but it's what interests me the most. Also every time I had an idea and wanted to find something, I ended up finding the items at a later date on sale in various stores. $30.00 for 1 dress! Unbelievable. So I wasn't a happy camper. I don't own a money tree so the only way I can do what I want is to do it myself.

I am writing just such a tutorial. I aim to cover everything I know about 3D modeling and the creation of figures for Poser, in particular conforming clothing. The "guts" of it are completed. It will include a vast number of screen shots, all the models referred to and, the models saved at various stages of construction so that the work flow may be truly understood. Although I work in Truespace it will not be limited to that program. I am writing in terms of what to do rather than repeating information that may be found in your help file. My target is publication by the end of the month. It will be distributed on a CD. I've been searching on Amazon.com for a good Poser book that gives explanations on how clothing is made in 3DS Max since no one is posting any new tutorials on this subject. What is the best book with the most information with the best price? Thanks
