THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Bryce Backroom

Okay....just so there is NO mistake that this is BRYCE related...

Anyone have ANY idea whether or not there is going to be an internal structure within Renderosity to replace our BRYCE Backroom? Which was recently deleted/killed.

Does the mods/coords here have (recent) backups of the BRYCE Backroom?

Does anyone (beyond my obviously obssesed self) care whether the BRYCE Backroom exists? I mean, truly, if not, I'll grab some sleepy time tea and go yell at kids to get off my lawn or something else, lol.

We have no plans to replace the backrooms as there are other means for the Mods and Coords to do what they need to effectively.

Nobody has backups as due to all the issues we had to close them down unexpectedly.

It was not an issue as I said, there are other means for the Mods and Coords to do what they need to do without having to use the backrooms.

They were causing a lot of problems on the site as I stated to you before so the only way to resolve the issues was to shut down the backrooms and by doing so, it has no negative impact on what they need to do.

If the current Moderators and Coordinators did not need the Bryce Backroom for anything, anymore then all is well. I do know the reigns of Brycedom are well in their hands here. :o)

I think I have some calming tea to go brew....or render, maybe. ;o)

I miss the backroom. I used to catch 40 winks in there when it got busy..........

I will miss some of those links to easter eggs and such.  It is sad there was no backups made before the deletions so mods/coords/users could saved the info elsewhere.

Sad indeed.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Tue, 14 August 2012 at 4:14 PM

Lol....woops.
I forgot pretty much all of my freestuff was in the Backroom.
Wondered why my Freestuff section looked...wrong, lol.

It's all good. All that stuff I have backups of, of course. ;o)
Even our old Bryce forum stuff (Mat Challenge, Adamite's mats, etc.)

Besides, I have to get my mouse in gear as I have like three Bryce scenefiles to get all zipped up for download. (Fran's gonna kick my butt if I don't get that done SOON)

I'll miss the Bryce backroom - that's where I got a lot of things from like those XRay mats and the Irridescence stuff and oooh loads more.

It's a real shame we can't get to that any more.

And a shame that those things are no longer available to new Brycers anymore.

So what are we going to use instead then?

Where is Rendo going to have all those useful links, easter eggs, mats and so forth?

AS,

Yes, I had been sort of wondering, but I wasn't going to beat you up about it... yet... I do know you're often busy.

Adamite's - yes, that's the chap - he's the one did those lovely irridescence mats, isn't he?

I'm so glad you saved everything, Kirk.  Phew!

Yeah, totally have the Bryce content stuff backed up on disk (i.e.; That one Challenge that had the insane amount of Bryce Mat's, also Adamites Mats, and there were also a few Bryce models) I'll get that stuff on my .com and get the links reloaded into the Bryce freestuff section, so that's not a problem.

Besides, I had all those image textures of mine on my blog now for quite some time, I had just forgotten to update the links in the freestuff section! :o)

Yes I see what you mean - none of your freestuff has thumbnails.

Good job you've still got everything socked away somewhere.

Is there going to be - or is there already - somewhere to obtain all those models and mats and links that were located in the Bryce Backroom?

I think that those Irridescent mats and X-Ray mats of Adamite, other mats, the models and links to easter eggs, tuts and other Bryce related stuff - should once more be made available to Brycers.

And please if it already is can we have a link to it?

Also when do we get our banners back?  I miss the Bryce and Wings ones, all of them, but the Wings one especially linked us to the Wings main download site - I miss not having that there.

I am going to ask if there is a way to open it up for people to get the links and stuff for a short time and then more than likely it will have to be closed again.

This is on my list of things to take care of as I am trying to come up with a new solution.

Thank you,

I have all the Bryce Mats (Materials) and content we had in the Backroom, or at least what was in there up until I was the Bryce Mod. I will gather all that content and get it into the Bryce Freestuff section.

The Bryce Forum Banners is another situation, as all those graphics resided in the Backroom and they would need to be 'hosted' somewhere on Renderosity again so they could work.

Good news is; after going through ALL my backup dvd's, I have found that I backed up the entire Bryce Backroom before I resigned my post. (which yes, was quite some time ago, but still)  :o)

p.s. (Fran) Some temporary bad news; Concerning those Bryce senefiles I will be making available for download - I've been going back and forth with my .com provider as my website hasn't been working lately but as soon as I can get it back in working order, I'll have them for download. (Sorry!)

AS, that's great that you have all that stuff saved.  I think I already have most of it myself, but I'm not sure and would love the opportunity to check.

But even better is the news that we could have a new Bryce Resource center, with all the old stuff (and maybe some new?) for all those pople who haven't yet had the opportunity to see all that lovely stuff. - if this new place is more visible and thus more available for newbies and people who just missed it first time out, then that'll be great.

No worries about the Bryce scene files, Kirk, just so long as I know you haven't forgotten about them, and so long as you let me know when they are available - I missed your containers, barrels, gas canisters etc.

I'm rather busy myself just now, creating things for Halloween for the DreamSlayer Artworks site. So if you or anyone else has any Halloween-ish models they'd be happy to give as freebies for DSA's '31 Days of H£ll' Halloween giveaway - just let me know.

I hope you get your website sorted soon, it sounds like a real pain.

If the backroom gets reinstated, we need to compile a list and explanation of all those "easter eggs" and shortcuts within Bryce. Maybe we can get our collective heads together for that.   I had a source bookmarked but it is no longer a valid web address.  It may have been BSolutions.  I'm not sure.

I still Bryce some but post very few images anymore. Still, I hate to let go all those workarounds.  Just this week, I created a commissioned Bryce image for a printer to make one of those vinyl sheets with holes in it that people put on there automobile windows.

skiwillgee ( ) posted Fri, 14 September 2012 at 9:24 PM

It was Stevesartgallery that had all those shortcut but is gone now.

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Sat, 15 September 2012 at 7:09 AM

I have that BSolutions 'Tips & Tricks for Bryce5' saved on my PC.  Is that the one you meant?

It was stevesartgallery but the BSolutions site may have had the same type stuff.  I couldn't get onto BSolutions either so I'm not sure.  Point is, some really good resources are disappearing.  We should build that info here if the backroom gets off the ground. Maybe someone knows how to get into some old archived sites, I don't.

I do, I tried stevesartgallery but it's gone - luckily I seem to have saved that page too. so I have both on my PC.

Some of the links, if not all, won't work but I have the main page - with all the pics - something that is no longer visible when you search using the wayback machine.

I have the pages plus the pics for both Stevesartgallery and for BSolutions - for the Bryce hints and tips/ aka Bryce Easter Eggs.

It would be a good idea to save stuff like Robin Woods tutorials too (I already have). I'm not sure if I've saved it all though.

Yes I agree.  I made the mistake of saving the web address and not the content.  Brycetech may be another one to save because I don't hear much from him either.  Is there any copyright issues at play in doing this???

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Sun, 16 September 2012 at 9:28 AM · edited Sun, 16 September 2012 at 9:30 AM

Not in saving web pages for yourself - but I'm not so sure about simply copying that onto Rendo - one of the Renderosity officials would have to give their opinion on that.  But it's likely that it would not be allowed - the information contained therein is public domain I'd think because it's about what Bryce can do, and that's a publically available program.

But the layout of the information & the style of the webpage - that is probably the property of the person who put the webpage online originally - possibly even the phrases used, although in a technical manual type of thing, I'm not so sure of that - the images would certainly be the property of the original poster though.

I'd be happy to redo the information, and the images - but I'm a bit strapped for time at the moment and will be until after October at least.

After that, if it's wanted and there will be a new Bryce Backroom to put it in, then I'd go ahead and do it.

Someone official would have to let me know.

Oh, on Brycetech, I think that's the one which is now hosted by Daz3d.com - because even they recognised that it's such a valuable resource - so I think that one's safe for now.

You are probably correct.  I see no problem in sharing the info since it was published as a public service, just not copy paste with images of designs.  We would have to put things in our own words.

Now to get the backroom up and running again.

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Tue, 25 September 2012 at 5:41 AM

Yes, exactly.

Now if someone else has the time, I'd be happy to pass on the saved .html for them to work from.
