Subject: how does she look?

I took a short break from a project I am working on for Esther that is giving me fits, and decided to finish Batgirl, aka SydneyG2.

I am still working out the issues with the thin hair and with what the cape is doing where it's attached to her back, but I really like the rest of it.

The background is BB's ENVsphere, and the ground is just an image map I added, to sort of give this a bat cave look (not trying for art here, only to show off the costume). I added VSS skin shaders/lights to the scene.

How is she looking? More renders if asked.

As usual, click to enlarge to see the details.

The cape. I need to figure out how to attach it to her costume and not have the attachment points "melt" during the cloth sim...

Her hair, which is waaay too thin. I don't like the look of the prop based hair, so I am doing this with her skullcap in the hair room. I am thinking to add another layer just above this one to cover it, and hope that does the trick. If you go too heavy with the hair (add too many verts or too many hairs) the program locks up and doesn't do the sim. So I am either going to add one more layer, or break this hair prop into 3 separate parts and make them each thicker. I already ticked off the 'opaque in shadow' option in the material room.

I just noticed the displacment map for her chest symbol needs some attention too...

I would suggest the eye openings on the mask are a little too large. Eyes are a dead giveaway when identifying someone. The main reason why one wears a mask. Overall very nice work.

Thanks for looking.

The eyes were inspired by this pic I found on google. I may go back and redo the mask, but I like it.

Ok, so how does this cowl look? I know the hair is sticking through it, but I am going to redo that at some point. This new cowl only took me 2 hours to do, so it might not be that good...

Batgirl's mask originally contained large eye openings.  The costume was for a Halloween function which later became her signature uniform.

I barely remember her origin story, but I do recall that she was going to a costume party dressed as Batman, and had to stop a robbery or something right?

I am going to look it up and see if I can find more on this.

And I am going to keep my original cowl/mask. I like it more.

Hmmm... according to what I just read on wikipedia, she was going to a costume party dressed as a FEMALE version of Batman, and foiled a kidnapping attempt of none other than Bruce Wayne himself. Pretty cool.

And I noticed that my costume looks quite a bit like the one they were dressing her in later on. I have yet to find the original, but I am guessing it's not far from what is already there, with the exception of a few minor changes.

I actually owned that origin comic.  Don't know if I still have it stored somewhere.

I apologize if my comment came across as criticism. It was intended as meerly an observation. I sometimes forget that comics and real life are two different things entirely :-).  As stated, the outfit looks very good. In fact, I have been looking for a batgirl costume. Keep up the good work.

He does very, very nice work. I did mine as an exercise (exercise the demons) while trying to figure out a texture I was doing for the tunnel I created for Esther.

I never saw it. The only origin story I ever saw on her was for the animated series in the 90's with Mark Hamil playing the joker. They did a similar story line, but she actually broke up a robbery or something with Two-Face involved.

I think I may have found you one. Mine will only work on SydneyG2, but I think he made his for V4.

Thanks, I have the one for Antonia. Haven't been around long enough to have ever owned V1 or V2. I happen to like Sydney.

Yeah, I started out with Poser 8, so I came late to the party too. I didn't have the cash to buy anything else for the program, so I was just using what I had available. The older Poser models didn't do it for me, and Alyson was/is kind of hard on the eyes. Not to mention the arms on Alyson 1 being a little out of scale. So I went with Sydney. I have been doing costumes for her and other items for the past few months since I started modelling my own stuff (yeah, I've only been doing this a few months and my inexperience shows itself a lot). So yeah, I like her too.

The problem with the costumes I make is that they are a means to an end, in that the first ones I made were straight from her mesh, so they were not really my work. And I still have to use parts of her for things I haven't mastered yet, like gloves and the masks. I finally figured out how to make the body suits and boots, gloves will be next.

I'd give this to you, but for the obvious reasons I stated, I can't.

Well, IIRC, V1 and V2 are still free over at DAZ.

nobodyinparticular ( ) posted Thu, 13 September 2012 at 1:46 PM

I actually looked once. V1 and V2 weren't available at the time. But I'm more interested in weight mapped characters lately. BTW Poserplace has been working on a weight mapped Sydney.

Yeah, but will she be free? I won't be getting her if she isn't...

Well, it's the same crew that brought out V4 weight mapped, for free. Good question. Rumor has it Smithmicro is weightmapping their legacy characters. Maybe this is part of it. Probably in the next release, which will probably be next year. So there might be a price.

The weightmapping on Sydney has been a progressing rather slowly because her mesh design is rather a mess.  From what I have seen, there is some promise but nothing in the immediate horizon.

I can understand that. I've made a few things out of her mesh. I have a feeling that weightmapping her means a complete redesign. Too bad. I think she would be cool weightmapped.

Your batgirl is good.  Now she can find the tunnel that the baddies have dug to get out of prison.

I aim to update it about once a month.  Oh, and it's free!
