I'm a big fan of Billy-T as a clothing vendor, but I'm skeptical on seeing this:

http://www.contentparadise.com/productDetails.aspx?id=21933

A new original female figure? Now, of all times? With no fanfair and little in the way of screen shots?

Why?

I'd rather stay in my lane than lay in my stain!

Interesting. No readme file? We shall see. We could use some new figures. Weight mapped especially. Thanks for pointing this out.

More new Figures? Seriously, I'd opt for less with more features. Quality over quantity, and this falls under the quantity catagory. Same old, same old.....

$12.00 isn't a bad price. Unfortunately, I have limited funds. Hair and clothing are probably not a problem for me. Wardrobe Wizard is your friend. And hair fitting I have been doing since day one.

Can always use a new figure. mysticeagle, you probably are correct. But I thought it was the job of a vendor to separate us from our money ;-). After all V4 was free, but her most important morphs were real money. Again, we shall see.

She could use some JCMs for the forearm bends and a good dose of EZ Skin.

I assume from this line that she takes V4 textures.

If it is, and as long as other important things match up, that'd actually be a good selling point for this or any new figure.

There is also "The New Girl" figure out at CP, with no fan fare I just received an email regarding it the other day. Unfortunately all she come with is bob hair and a bikini

wimvdb ( ) posted Fri, 14 September 2012 at 3:34 PM

I just tried her. She does take V4 textures, but not the MAT poses. The material names have been changed and some have been combined.

She works well with EZSkin after you define the materials.

Polycount is 122K. There are a no real full body morphs present, there are morphs for breast, waist, thighs and some others. Expressions are quite nice, but only a few face morphs. So I expect there will be a few morph packs.

There is a Standard Rio, a version with extended JCM and 3 version for morph and clothing creators.

The bodytype is different from V4. This means that tight dynamic clothes have to be adapted for this shape. V4 conforming clothes will not work (as expected).

Hair needs to be fitted, but seems to be easy at first try, the shape of the skull is similar

Overal first impression: I like the facial expressions and the bodyshape. I hope there will be some clothing packs and morphs available soon from Billy-t

It is unbelievable how many users still render with older render settings , older material room setups, AO, and or IBL.

I think you missed my point. Let me be more clear.

The promo images are terrible and look like they were made with Poser by a user who is ignorant of all manner of rendering technique.

Had the promos been rendered with one of those other awesome renderers and it looked great, then I would have said nothing.

Had the promos been rendered with one of those other awesome renderers and it looked like the shit it does, then I would say something, but probably not about EZ Skin.

Since the product is being advertised on SM's site, and even SM uses EZ Skin to generate shaders for Poser figure promos, it seemed logical to observe that it's really stupid, as in shooting yourself in the ass, to show a promo like that from Poser. I instantly dismissed the character as pointless, as a result, since its reason for existence is to take advantage of new Poser tech (read the text) yet it does not do so. How many other people would do the same?

It says in plain English and quite bold letters:

character base Rio for P9 & 2012

Doesn't get any more explicit than that. Yet it looks like Poser 4. The bends are shit. The skin is shit.

It may be a good figure-but presentation is everything in the market. I don't know BT-although I have bought products from him- perhaps he would appreciate constructive criticism?

I had the same initial reaction as BB. And I do sometimes render in Lightwave. I also spent dozens of hours playing with SSS in Lightwave to get decent looking Skin, eyes, and teeth- so BB's SSS in Poser was a real timesaver-since my LW nodes (using SSS layered maps-had to be tweaked every time I changed the lighting).

Maybe I'm picky-but I would also hope someone at SM would suggest that buyers would feel more confident if the spelling was corrected- "Brast Small", "Brast Peark?"

That is promising! If his presentation was better-he would stand a better chance of getting others on board (vendors).

There are some other new figures-that seem to have issues with the UV mapping- ie allocating way too much UV "space" to some features-and not enough to others-such as MyMichelle-with the result that eyes may render with exquisite detail-while the surrounding face is blurred-even with high res textures. If this character can use V4 maps-I suspect it is mapped accordingly-which is good.

The above was a (MyMichelle) deal breaker-for me. The shape is nice-even more so with Gabe (Blackhearted's) morph work-but I do want to be able to render detailed close ups.

Billy-T doesn't speak English. A translation program is responsible for the odd spellings and grammar in his presentation.

If DAZ ever decides to whip out their disco stick and make all the other kiddies get out of the pool, every vendor that chooses to support a figure which natively utilizes daz-based textures is screwed.

This is why I chose not to go the m4 route with my uvs. I'm not hanging my ass on the line for such a big IF'ing question.

Eric Walters. I once tried to translate a document in Italian using an online program. It was more understandable in Italian .

I had a freelance job for a while translating French into English. I know almost no French, but between 3 online translators and Google, it was not particularly challenging to take the output, make sense of it, and re-write in good English.

This is the best use for these things: translating into your own language. Using them to translate into another language is just silly. It would be better to provide the original and let the end user paste it into Babelfish, etc.

I'm constantly seeing bad grammar and misspellings in promos here at Renderosity... It's hilarious that a vendor would go to all the trouble of beautifully compositing and lettering their promo images and then ruin the impression with such mistakes. AlfaSeed at RDNA is a good example.

Maybe Poserites are prone to monosyllabic grunting?

Hardly. Some very verbose Poser users around here.

About the errors: I've noticed the same, but gave up my membership in the grammar Stasi long ago when I realized that, if I went through life caring about other people's grammar errors, the accumulated effect of even the tiny rise in blood pressure would probably shorten my years.  Besides, I can hardly fault Poser vendors for making errors when I also see obvious mistakes in the New York Times.

I've never cared for his promo images; they rarely do the models justice, but they must be appealing enough for his intended market (English obviously isn't his first language).  The couple of his clothing items I have purchased are very nice.

There are a couple of more images on his site, and a free bikini..

That is what I thought. Only 12 bucks, but there are problems as pointed out in the first few posts. Should the vendor be encouraged or should the product be left to fade away? Does spelling matter to weight mapping?

bagginsbill ( ) posted Mon, 17 September 2012 at 8:53 PM

The spelling business had no part in my statement. I was critical of the appearance of the figure from a promotional standpoint, given that it is now a free plugin and a few clicks to configure a reasonable skin for the figure. That and the elbow that looks like a knee. Weight mapping is good for what, now?

Well first off there was no promotion from his side to get this figure going, sooo...I don't see anybody jumping on it really. It looks like it was just released. No hype build up or anything. If it was not for this thread I would not have heard about it. Vendors will look at those promo's and say "I ain't wasting my time on that." Also as mentioned, those bends are substandard by todays top figures. Why take a step backward when we all moving forward? I love billy-t's clothing, but this figure not so much. Asking vendors to support this figure is asking them to take a hit from a financial standpoint. Only saving grace here is morphing clothes and WW support. Other than that all I see is a couple of underwear releases or basic dresses. But most importantly, lets see how well he supports his own figure. If there is no effort from his side, then I don't see why vendors would bother as well.
