I'm now the proud owner of Poser Pro 2012.  Well, I'm downloading from SM as we speak.  All I have to do now is:

Shoehorn it onto me old machine

Learn how to use the bugger.

For some reason, I thought that was the subject of this thread. Congratulations. You will find it very different. But I think you will like it.

Hell's Bells!  It takes a while to install, don't it? sweeps cobwebs off screen

I'm guessing me next step after registering will be to download and install the SRs.

Yeah... you should only need to run SR3 for Poser Pro 2012, I believe. It is a cumulative update, which includes previous SRs... as far as I understand it.

You don't need to run the Queue Manager SR3 on the machine you've run the Poser SR3 on (i.e. it's only for if you're running additional PCs with just QM on them).

monkeycloud ( ) posted Thu, 27 September 2012 at 7:25 PM

After that, you've just got to download and install Miki4 and Tyler... unless they've already included them in the Poser Pro 2012 content pack download. Guess they might have already?

I'm guessing that content's probably what's taken most of the time to download and install?

😉

Bugger.  It won't run on me machine.  :(  Keeps crashing out.

Congrats on getting pp12. Hope you can figure how to make it work with your machine.

Update graphics card driver

Allow network access

Those are the first tweaks to try if you're on a windows machine.

moogal ( ) posted Fri, 28 September 2012 at 3:19 AM

It should run on the same machine you have been using.  It's the most solid version of Poser perhaps ever released (from what I hear and in my own opinion).  If you can run any version (at least since 4), this one should be fine.

estherau ( ) posted Fri, 28 September 2012 at 7:13 AM

Oh gosh sam you don't expect it to run do you.  You are just supposed to stare gratefully at the installer.

Some people are just never satisfied.

He he...

Erm... did you do a fresh install or an upgrade, too, is the other thing I might think to ask her...

EDIT: "ask her"? I think I meant "here"...

SamTherapy ( ) posted Fri, 28 September 2012 at 5:12 PM

Thanks for the advice and encouragement, folks.  I have an old single core Athlon machine with 1.5 gigs of RAM.  It has a stone age NVidia card which fell over last time I tried to update it.  Network access is no problem for Poser; I had Debut running on there, albeit slowly.

If, as has been said, PP 2012 will run on my machine, I'll persevere.  I don't want to waste anyone's time on an insoluble problem, though.  I'll try to get SR3 on there before I try owt else.

After that, I'll contact SM if all else fails.

Hey, at least I have the software now.  At the very worst, I just have to wait until I upgrade my system.  Not possible right now but when I can, I'll at least have PP 2012.  In the meantime I can still use P6. :)

I used poser pro 12 on a similar machine. Make sure you have as much memory as possible. It dragged for me if I used the higher poly people or put many in the scene. Mostly I'd set up as much as possible in an earlier version and then use it for rendering.

Sam, I did testruns of PP2012 on a 10" netbook with an N270 CPU, way below SM minimum specs, and with only 1 GB RAM.

Ir runs. Slowly, but it runs, no crashes.

I sugest a system cleanup with "Advanced System care free" from iobit.com
That is a great piece of software to get older systems cleaned up.
Let it run in deepclean mode 3 to 5 times in a row.

Then install PP2012, install SR3 directly over it, and reboot your PC, before starting PP2012 up.

Poser, like any other software runs best on a lean and clean system.
Advanced system care free can do that for you.

FYI ; the netbook video drivers have "limited" open gl at best.
SoI tested in open gl and in Sreed

Slow, but still, no crashes. PS, that was with 2 netbooks actually:

One with a N270 CPU on Win XP starter
Second had a N450 CPU on Windows 7 starter, both with 1GB RAM.

Good luck on your setup.

PS, Advanced sytem care free is now on version 5.4

And there is a beta version 6.3, (but that is beta)

Content Advisory! This message contains profanity

Bugger indeed!

Well, let me know about that memory...

It's quite possibly another conflict or corruption issue... rather than a lack of memory. You've got a little more that the minimum recommended RAM at least... but a bit of extra RAM can make up for a multitude of other sins... sometimes.

SamTherapy ( ) posted Sat, 29 September 2012 at 8:14 PM

I'll get to it, mate.  Been a manic few days here.

Just for the record, I'm running XP with all the updates and, according to ASC, I have all the latest drivers for everything.

Yeah... same here! I can't check till Monday anyway...

As you say, just good you got Pro 2012 now... even if you end up having to wait for a better system now too! But with a bit of luck a little extra RAM could help it meantime...

Do you have a 32 or 64 bit OS? Do you have the correct version of Poser installed? (Comes with 32 and 64 bit versions).
