I am working on a dress right now. Here is a first look. I am going to do some more work on the neck and shoulders area.

If you like it, I'll finish it and put it in the freebies.

Thanks Phil, yep, I'm after a quick suit dress and bodysuit MR.

I'm currently adapting a mesh I have, but it's a lot of poly moving and testing at the moment.

Dynamic or conforming when it's done?

A skirt and top. This is what the earlier dress I posted morphed into. These are BB's shaders on there for now, until I can work out the textures myself.

Dynamic top with 10 textures and several material zones. It's not 100% perfect, as I am still new to all this :-)

With the mesh I have now I can make items dynamic or conforming.

Dynamic is easy as it requires no grouping or rigging.

At the moment it is just a mesh, no need for anything as tis is just to cut up to make other things.

I wasn't too happy with the skirt part of the dress, so I cut the skirt part off and redid it my way.

Not hard to do and I got a better drape for it.

For [basic] dynamics, no grouping is required, but if you want detailed dynamics with buttons and pockets, or even 2 sided cloth, grouping IS required, otherwise your buttons and other stuff just fall off.

The shorter dress has a real 60's look to it. The new drape of the long dress is really nice.

What are you using to create that dress? I have so many problems with that in Wings, as it's not really set up to do soft modelling. I have tried importing my meshes into Blender and utilizing the shrinkwrap function, but it does something to my meshes and they fail in the cloth room in poser.

They don't fall off if you constrain them, but they deform really bad. That is a really nice looking scene.

Constrained group is for polys you want to stay in place, i.e. top of straps so they don't fall off shoulder.

Soft Decorative groups are for things that follow the main dynamic cloth during sim, i.e pockets.

Rigid Decorative group is like the soft deco group, but for hard objects that follow cloth, i.e. buttons, beads, etc.

I hope that helps some people out on what to set for which group.

...and ty, it was only a quick test scene to see how the shirt and boxers  I made looked. It's actually a shirt for M4, but put it on V4.

Hi all, I'm using Silo to do all the work.

When I mentioned grouping, I was on about grouping for conforming, eg, lCollar, hip etc.

I can do that with other programs.

This is how far I have got this afternoon doing the bodysuit. Again this is an adaption, and I've had to do a lot of poly, vert etc. moving to get to this point.

As you can see this is just a lores, still have to get the arms right yet, then I can go on to do a subdiv, mess around with paint displacement etc. to get a working mesh.

It can take a little while to get to what I need, but I've plently of time today.

All the best.

Nice work there. I need to see about getting a program that I can learn so I can do soft modelling. Wings is cool, but it's 3 times as much work as you are doing there if I want to do something skin tight. Unless I cheat and just use the mesh from the character.

I'll check that out. I have been finding that a lot of programs like C4D and Blender use poly-by-poly modeling which Wings can't do. Hopefully there isn't anything like that in this tutorial or I can't do it.

But thank you for posting.

Yeah, Wings can't do what you are showing in there, but I think I can fake it to a point. I will give it a shot later.

well in wings start with a box, and use the mirror thing. then when you get there set the neck, ankles and wrist holes to the Hole material or whatever its using these days for that.

Aside from that its mostly extruding and shaping. Wings does have a virtual smooth thing, though I'm forgetting what its called now.  Wings may not do poly by poly, but it does do boxes-with-the-ends-cut-off .. which is close enough.

monkeycloud ( ) posted Mon, 15 October 2012 at 8:04 AM

Cool - thanks for the tutorial Lyrra 😄

Am I right in thinking Hexagon won't do the "poly by poly" modelling you're talking about either? Do you know? Or have I just not found it yet...

I do have Shade3d though too... and I think that does do it...

Lyrra ( ) posted Mon, 15 October 2012 at 12:28 PM

there are only a couple cases where I make polys.. most of it is extruding, shaping and some cutting.  So I think you should be able to work around it.  In the end the important bit is the placement of the edge loops, the location of the 4 tris and keeping the polycount low.

Further to this, has anyone shared or published a Quicksuit base or dress base for Miki4 as yet?

I've been playing around with making some stuff now for Alyson2... to fit Anastasia and Shae... using Lyrra's excellent dev kit for Alyson2.

But I'm very keen to make some stuff for Miki4 too (as well as Tyler... but I've already been perstering Lyrra about him in another thread 😉).

I know there is the rigged dev figure that comes with Miki4.

But I take it, in terms of modelling something for her, I'd still need to have a separate Quicksuit or Dress base mesh to use that with?

Many thanks

rokket ( ) posted Tue, 23 October 2012 at 5:17 PM

I used her DEV rig and a variation of Lyrra's tutorial to make a full bodysuit without making a separate Quicksuit or dress base mesh. It turned out fairly well, but I am in the middle of perfecting the technique so I won't post any examples.

waaait for it .... lol

I'm finishing up some v4 stuff that should hit the store momentarily, and a genesis outfit that had been put on hold for a bit - just needs MATs and poser format files now.

So once those are done I'm going to finish the alyson2 bodysuit, tyler magnets, ryan magnets and ryan devkit.  Then I can make the miki devkit... so I'm afraid you'll have to wait for a teensy bit.  And then get back to the other 24 products in my working folder. Argh

Too much work, not enough time.  I need minions.

monkeycloud ( ) posted Tue, 23 October 2012 at 6:06 PM

Cool - awesome to know you're planning to tackle Miki4 too. I can wait Lyrra... long as I know it's coming. LOL 😉

I have my work cut out just now, making stuff based on your Alyson2 Dev Kit already... so it's not a problem. He he...

Trying to figure out how to use this Zipper tri-part brush in ZB currently, for that tracksuit I started for her... amongst other things. I'd get on with trying to rig the thing first, before modelling details like that... but I've had a Poser background render running for the last few days and scared to crash it!
