Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 23 1:20 pm)
Quote - at least: 4 core proc (but it'll still work with 2), 8 gigs ram (16 is better, but you really don't need it), a half decent retail grade gfx card (for OpenGL preview - Poser doesn't use it past that), Poser PRO 2012 and a 64 bit OS (Pro utilizes 64 bit).

Actually the more ram the better. I've watched my performance meter and have seen it go up to 24 gb at render time
my specs:
i7-3820 @3.6 GHz
32 GB ram
1 GB GeForce GTX 550 Ti
2 TB hdd
120 GB SSD
And yes , it rus like a thoroughbred.
I built a dual processor E5 2630. 65g ram and ssd drives. Poser runs fast. It will use up to two 8core cpu's so if you have the money, more is better.
Remember that more cores and more ghz speed is what makes it render faster.
I gave a lot of serious consideration to the top of the line I7. The dual E5's were almost the same price but the neat thing is that next year if I want to replace the cpu's with a couple of 8 core and faster ghz, I can do it. I don't think the I7 is going to be upgradeable in any significant way in the near future.
So after talking to SM and researching, and making sure you don't bottleneck your system with inadequate RAM or HD speed, ... it comes down to a simple equation. Cores x ghz.
The top of the line I7 is 6 cores x 3.2ghz. = 19.2
The dual system I built is 12 cores x 2.4ghz = 28.8 which is just slightly faster at about the same price.
If I wanted to go nuts on spending money (the E5 2630 is about $650) I'd go with two of the 8 core 3.3ghz and get 52.8 for a total speed which should more than double the I7, but you're looking at over $2k per cpu. So there is a price/performance consideration to keep in mind.
64bit OS to use more than your 4 GIG Ram, i would recommend a 16 GIG system at least. Also, a 4 core or more processor recommended. Depending on how long you can wait for scenes to render.
I personnally run a 32GIG Ram, i7 System on Win 7 64 Bit, works lovely!
Ah, and go for a SSD Drive for putting your runtime on.

My desktop is starting to die and I'm looking to replace it. I'm wondering what specs I should shoot for in order to make Poser Pro 2012 run like a thoroughbred. I'm kind of behind the times when it comes to processors such as I7's or I3's or what not.
Any tips?
Thanks...
