Subject: TYLER the new figure from SM is on his way...

Attached Link: Patrick Swayze Dirty Dancing

The hairstyle is more Patrick Swayze in "Dirty Dancing" (though it's a little more windswept in the attached link)

Actually ... with a little more tweaking, there ya go!

Oh yeah, Swayze... of course! Him too... there's a sort of similarity between all three I think?

Virtual_World's morph is a bit of a longer, thinner face I think, than any of those guys, really.

It reminds me of another, more contemporary celebrity... film actor I think... but I can't quite put my finger on who it is...

He does look sort of a young Kurt Russell-ish ;). Make him a blonde and I think you have it. LOL

The free morph is available now

I modified the final morph a little bit.  It is not exactly the same posted previously.  I posted a full image of the final morph in my gallery.

The hair used in my previous post is Mature Mark Hair by Neftis with one of my new textures to be relased soon, problaby at the marketplace here.

Here there is a new render.....

Lovely, thank you. I have that hair, did not know it had a Ryan fit ... or did you adjust it yourself? I really must hunt for more stuff for the P8/9 figures. Gonna grab the Tyler outfits from here too.

Miki 4, on the other hand, will have to stay in her bikini. At least for now unless maybe she can share clothes with her older sisters?

I wish we had more textures and morophs for him. Is there any way to get this weight-mapped figure to take either M4 textures or M4 facial morphs?

I wish we had more clothing for him also.

I don't think it is possible to have him take M4 morphs or textures, but I'm no expert.

How about a weight-mapped M4? Will we ever get that? Don't get me wrong. I really like Tyler. The face is very expressive, and I really am happy about how the body moves with weight-mapping.

I'm really suprised the vendor support for these guys are so few. Since launch there has been next to nothing in terms of clothing. Is it because everybody is just relying WW conversions etc?

Well, yes there was a clothing pack with Miki4 and a few things for Tyler, but it's pretty disappointing so far. And I'm still waiting for more for GNDA2, yes there are some items, but it's not overwhelming.
When V4 and M4 were released there was already clothing out in the Daz store ready for them. I think SM have missed a trick here, it doesn't seem as though they had vendors working with them far enough in advance.

Clothing-wise I've found that Wardrobe Wizard can do a pretty good job.

Still, I've snapped up the Tyler sci-fi HAAS outfit that Xurge3d have made for him and various items for him here, like the suit, etc.

I'd REALLY like to see Xurge do a HAAS suit, or similar, for Miki4, by the way. More peripherals, all round, made specifically for Miki4, as well as Tyler, would be fantastic.

The Faceroom compatibility of both Tyler and Miki4 should be a big bonus I'd have thought?

Although I'm planning to use ZBrush more for making facial adjustments to them myself.

We could really do with textures for both. There is now a Living Doll merchant resource texture pack for Anastasia. I really hope that SaintFox / Digital-Lion are planning similar for Miki4 AND Tyler...

Fingers and toes crossed for that.

Although, I'd really like to see some non-caucasian texture merchant resources for all these figures too.

It's not because I have particualr ambitions to make character products of any sort myself, that I want to see these as merchant resources.

But, rather, I believe this will encourage more character morph vendors to make products for Tyler and Miki4... i.e. if they have the materials to make this process easier for them.

Doesn't apply to Miki4 or GNDA2 though, does it?

It's surely a snowball effect, in part?

The kind of merchant resources I mentioned are, surely, the first handful of snow that's really required to start building any kind of lasting momentum...

EDIT: Apologies for the early xmassy reference in there, by the way.

toastie ( ) posted Tue, 16 October 2012 at 5:35 AM

Yeah, but my point was that SM had said they were getting vendors on board to make clothes for the new releases so that there would be plenty of support when they were released (or something to that effect, I've haven't checked back in the thread). I was hoping that meant there would be a lot more stuff released with the launch of Miki4 and Tyler than there actually was.

GNDA2 is different obviously as she wasn't an official SM release.

monkeycloud ( ) posted Tue, 16 October 2012 at 5:56 AM · edited Tue, 16 October 2012 at 5:57 AM

Yeah, fair enough. Still... it does take time to make content. Especially from scratch.

So much stuff churning through the marketplace, for V4, etc, is clearly recycled from existing stock... isn't it? Well, I suspect it is... and that's not to de-value it. I just mean to say that it must be easier to make a garment, or a character morph / texture pack, if you have a working base to start from.

I did mean some clothing creation merchant resources, would be good, too. Maybe Lyrra is already working on something 😉

I'm still waiting for a "foot pose" product for Miki4, that thinkcooper mentioned was in the works, by a vendor, actually.

There's only really been a trickle for Miki4 so far... still, I note that Andolaurina has now got some more Miki4 (and Miki3) character packs out, over at Content Paradise... and Tempesta3d have a Miki4 character.

If a handful of the other "top selling" texture and morph product vendors just made one product each for Miki4, that'd be awesome.

I just don't get why more of those vendors aren't in more of a hurry to capitalise on the current rarity value in releasing something...

...well, I guess I do. But I wish they'd just go for it. I suspect it would pay off for them.

It's back to the lack of Merchant Resources I reckon... on the whole... I still think.

toastie ( ) posted Tue, 16 October 2012 at 6:06 AM

Hopefully Xurge will bring out some more stuff for GNDA2 and Tyler. I'd love to have some of the recent M4 sets for Tyler for example.

I have no luck at all with WW so unless there's XD support for GNDA2 and Tyler then I'm a bit stuck for converting items for them. There was supposed to be an XD licence for Ayyson2/Anastasia in the works, but I've never managed to get a reply from EvilInnocence when I've asked about it :(

monkeycloud ( ) posted Tue, 16 October 2012 at 6:18 AM

Yeah, I'd love to see a lot more stuff from Xurge for GNDA2 and Tyler... and indeed, hopefully Miki4. The medieval / historical stuff as well as the sci-fi.

I was stumped with WW, until I figured out I'd overlooked the copy weight maps option! LOL.

But, yeah, mileage does vary a bit... depending on the clothing items. I think I've been lucky with the types of garment I've wanted to convert for Tyler / Miki4.

I'm still struggling to get any kind of footwear to work, for the most part though, actually.

toastie ( ) posted Tue, 16 October 2012 at 6:40 AM

Defintely want the Xurge historical stuff for Tyler.

Trouble with converting clothes is I'm still fairly new to WW (and Poser!), while I've used XD for years and have a shedload of licences so I can convert practically anything to practically any figure in my runtime. And because I've used it for so long I know how to set it up to get the results I want. The morphing tool in Poser is the icing on the cake for converted stuff. I convert stuff so obsessively that often when I get a new item the first thing I do is convert it and use it on a different figure. It may never get used on the figure it was made for at all.

With WW I don't have any experience of using it, I only have a couple of figure licences, my PC doesn't seem to like it much and crashes occasionally.... so not really a favourite option for me at the moment. I have tried several V4 items to Alyson2 but the results have been pretty bad. Not the fault of WW itself I'm sure, but it doesn't encourage me to switch from XD.

I really want a GNDA2 XD licence.... pleeease EvilInnocence...help me! :)

And you all smiled it away.

If you want to beat V4/M4?

Any new figure has to have at least a 500 support items ready AT release date.
Any new figure, male or female.
If you do not have those 500 in hand? Forget it.

The market for V4 is sooooo HUGE, there is just NO way you are going to throw V4/M4 of their thrones.

And, YES, I do like Miki4 and Tyler.

And I have moving breasts on my figures BTW.

I am soo tired to start digging into each and every new figure/character to work some weeks on those breasts that I gave up.

I test any new figure/character, most do not survive the first 10 minutes.

Genesis will overtake M4/V4 in time.

Most of these issues you speak of regarding the importer are minor and will be sorted out.

Also how is it complicated? Its the easiest figure to work with. Maybe complicated in Poser for now but the integration will improve.

Genesis brings nothing new? That is your opinion. All depends what content you have for it. Out of the box it is basic. I think it brings so much more than regular figures.

Genesis breasts do move up and down with arm movement (and side to side). You need to bend the Collar, which in real life happens when you move your arm up and down.

NGM? Those are real enough for me. Ever tried Magnets? Can easily Get realistic Breasts if you know what your doing.

Anyway, back on topic. I do agree with you regarding Sm and what was required on launch day for these guys. They simply did not do enough as usual.

Hmmm....

Whether you like it... or think it's a lump...

...once Genesis in Poser (via the new DSON Loader) overcomes any initial teething it has to go through, can there be much doubt that it is the future for any V4 (or other Gen4) content?

You may still see Vicky on her throne (in the temple, with the sword). Will it be the Vicky that sits there now though... or her Genesis clone?

It may be some months away still... maybe more than months... I guess? But surely once Daz feel confident they can pull the plug on shipping new units of the old V4, V3 figures etc, because all the legacy content, that is still on sale, for those legacy figures, will operate with Genesis (whether in DS or in Poser) I'd be surprised if they don't do that??

Maybe this is THE good reason for those content makers that don't want to have to start using DS to make their stuff to START NOW, making some more (a lot more) content for Tyler and Miki4 and Anastasia??

He he... sorry I'm being a wind-up merchant aint I? ...or am I?

I don't think anyone's expecting the new figures/morphs from SM to catch up or overtake V4. She has a massive head start on them anyway. And obviously it's fair enough that vendors don't want to take risks, especially with something that's limited to having the newest versions of Poser. Since V4 works for just about everyone you're pretty safe there.

But. SM could've provided the incentive to vendors to produce more clothing, character sets etc. for the launch to make the new guys immediately more attractive to customers. Commission more stuff and put some serious backing behind them. I'm not generally all that interested in new figures just for the sake of it. I usually pick up a new figure if it's associated with something else I want, eg. I never bothered with M4 until I saw some of MutedBanshee's characters - then I needed M4.

Different if it's a character from Blackhearted of course - then it's just a want! ;)

Out of interest, Blackhearted, where would you stand on the question of merchant resources? Do you think that its an issue that these are lacking so far for Tyler (and Miki4)? I mean MR skin textures, but also donor rigged clothing, quicksuits, etc.

Do you think the provision of those sort of resources can fuel vendor uptake?

I guess there are the same issues / concerns relative to actually putting in the work on those and then selling enough units...

There are some clothes for Anastasia. Perhaps not what you want, but there are some. As for vendors jumping on the bandwagon, maybe they're not sure it's a bandwagon yet. :) Vicky is guaranteed. Which would you make and sell for? That being said, sure I'd like to see more clothes for Anastasia and Tyler. And I think we will. But it's gonna take time. As for Miki, I couldn't care less. I'll continue to use Miki 1 and 2 when I need to. I have quite a few clothing items for them. I do think we'll see more clothes for Miki 4 as well tho.

Yeah. But what I'm talking about isn't support from individual clothing creators, it's support provided by, or at least organised by SM in support of their own products.

They gave the impression that they were organising that kind of support, but it doesn't really seem to have materialised unfortunately.

And like I said above, GNDA2 is a bit different as she wasn't an official SM release.

I guess there are the same issues / concerns relative to actually putting in the work on those and then selling enough units...

there ARE merchant resources out for these figures.

the simple fact is this:

every vendor has access to records of who purchased their products, when, at what price, etc all the way back to the beginning.  its also quite easy to ask a fellow merchant how their add-ons are selling, or if someone has purchased them.  it has been my observation that the majority of people in these threads complaining about lack of support or asking for specific items rarely actually purchase the items in question anyway.  'i want practical clothing for anastasia' - ok, so merchants make something like this for $6 and hardly anyone buys it. 'i want fantasy armor for anastasia', ok so merchants make something like this for $3 and hardly anyone buys it.

the fact is that many merchants are very accommodating to customers, and will make what customers SAY they want.  they go out on a limb and spend weeks working on something, testing it, packaging it, making promos and uploading it.... and then... the very people that asked for it dont even buy it.  theres always some excuse why they cant buy right now, or  'ive added it to my wishlist'.

if you want support for a figure start actually buying the addons. when someone spends an equal amount of time making something for Tyler and gets half or a quarter as many sales than if it were released for M4, then they will never make a piece of Tyler clothing again.

so again, its not the vendors that determine what you see in the marketplace, its the customers. if as a customer you want to see more of a certain type of item in the marketplace, buy it. its really that simple.

@Blackhearted... okay mate, I see how this works.

Well, kerching... I've finally bought Tyler some undercrackers. Oh, and Melody for Alyson2 looked good too...

EDIT: ^Merchants take note... this doesn't mean I want more underpants for Tyler. More items... yes.

What can I say, they keep tempting me with these discount vouchers.

All my copy of Tyler needs now is some more stuff to wear over the top of the tank top and trunks set.

I know...he's got his Xurge3d HAAS suit or business suit already to choose from... maybe that's enough?

:sneaky:

Damnit! It'll never be enough

Looks like its back to trying to feed Renapd's entire Napoleonic M4 ensemble through Wardrobe Wizard. LOL.

EDIT: The 1930s Menswear for M4 converted pretty well too already (apart from the shoes)

EDIT: ^There's a clue there, I guess, relative to the kind of stuff I'd like - aside from functional shoes

Seriously... more shoes would be great though? Anyone?

Laurie, is it wrong of me to want to enclose Tyler's wonderfully sculpted metatarsels in a nice pair of brogues?

....it has been my observation that the majority of people in these threads complaining about lack of support or asking for specific items rarely actually purchase the items in question anyway.  'i want practical clothing for anastasia' - ok, so merchants make something like this for $6 and hardly anyone buys it. 'i want fantasy armor for anastasia', ok so merchants make something like this for $3 and hardly anyone buys it....

Well I'm pleased to be able to say I asked for Sci-Fi suits and Mediaeval clothing for Anastasia. Xurge provided it and I bought it.

I've even gone as far as buying a few of the clothing items in the store here that I didn't really want/need just to show a bit of support, but unfortunately your two examples - everyday clothing and fantasy armour are things I don't want or need for any figure.

The thing is though (to go back to my original point again), you need to cover the full range of clothing styles to have something that will interest everyone. If SM had arranged the release of several completely different items with the figures then there would be something to interest everyone and a good idea of what's most popular. Now, there were some clothes released at the same time as the figures, but not enough to make a workable wardrobe for anyone. Not the RMP vendors fault, but a missed oppotunity by SM.

Some things were released at Rendo shortly after Tyler was released. Others have appeared since then ...

a full 'medieval wardrobe' is simply not going to happen with any new figure launch.

medieval clothing = niche.  so is sci-fi.

pinup, fantasy, casual, fae and hair is mainstream.

to justify making medieval launch clothing for a new figure, the merchant would have to charge $30-50 for the clothing item, and noone is going to pay that because people want everything for $5.

Blackhearted you're just not getting my point here at all! I'm not suggesting that individual vendors should be creating everything anyone could possibly want. I'm saying that SM's people here on the forum said that they had several vendors on board to make sure there was plenty of content for the new figures when they were released. Plenty of content isn't really two clothing packs for Miki4 and a handful of items for Tyler.

I've responded to threads asking what customers want to see for Anastasia etc. with what I want to see and what I will buy, which is Mediaeval and Sci-fi clothing. Whether that's mainstream or not is irrelevant, but it's what I'll buy. It's no good anyone criticising me for not buying items I never said I wanted or would buy in the first place!

Yup... I have some of that stuff in Deecey's list. My dilema is that not everything is what I want...least not right now. I have wishlisted all of it.

If merchants only make a bit of underwear, and then that's all that they will sell.

Do they all think, "those undercrackers sold pretty well, better make some more"?

Do they think Blackhearted has shifted a lot of underwear, we should make more of that?

Sure I bought the undercrackers... but largely because Blackhearted made them and I know they'll be good.

But really I, personally, want more stuff that I can use in historical contexts, whether that's baroque, Victorian, 1920s, 1930s, 1950s... or contemporary street scenes too. Or sci-fi battle scenes.

There's a dirth of that stuff here. Renapd's Napoleonic sets, of which I own the lot, are one exception.

Daz have a fair choice of period costumery... and would appear to be shifting it. They do seem to coordinate their releases... it's all quite 1950s over there the last while, in terms of historical gear.

Other folk will want more fantasy gear, that's not so much my thing... for the most part... to date. But if I had an idea on those lines, it would be.

But a lot of the time what makes me get something too is how well made it looks, and how good the promo render is... I'll be honest. But there's a limit. That limit is probably one set of nicely made underwear per character 😉

I appreciate the difficulties for vendors...

At the same time, looking at past sales, for themselves and each other, is probably not the way to go... not as the only means of market research. It is self re-enforcing, isn't it?

I don't doubt that Blackhearted knows the market better than that... but its the vendors following what he is doing... looking at his output and associated sales... and nothing else, that stimmy it, I suspect?
