Subject: SR3 Has Stuffed Up My Startup Scene

mathman ( ) posted Sat, 20 October 2012 at 9:21 PM · edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 11:52 PM

Hi,

After having installed SR3, Poser Pro 2012 can no longer find the default figure (MilkManAndy). When I got this message, I cancelled out of that, and attempted to save the empty scene.

Unfortunately, when I select File/Save, it tries to save it as Untitled.pz3.

I figure that if I know where to save the startup scene to, that would be enough.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Andrew

PS, I also did a search of my hard disk, but could not find MilkManAndy.

If you want to save a blank scene - and maybe a default screen size and your preferred lights, you can set them all up as you like then go to the Preferences menu and select "Save Preferred State".  That way, every time you start/restart Poser, you'll get the scene you want, rather than having to go through the process of deleting Andy or any extraneous lights.

At least, that's how it works in earlier versions of Poser.

As for Andy, I believe the files are all compressed.  The Cr2 certainly is.  It's in Runtime/Libraries/Character/Additional Figures/Mannequins.  The Cr2, or more precisely, Crz uses the Andy2.obj (obz) in the same folder.

Sam,

Thanks but that did not work at all. It's playing silly buggers at my expense.

I cleared out Andy, but now its hell-bent on loading up a file called OfficeFoyerBG_512.jpg.

I even loaded up a different pz3 file, started a brand new file, went into Preferences and set this as preferred state. I then closed it down, and opened it up again.

This time, when I opened it up, it started nagging me for OfficeFoyerBG_512.jpg again ("Please locate..." dialog). I was able to find it doing a hard disk search and tried to load it. But it refused, and kept on popping up the dialog again and again and again and.....and again sigh. Hitting OK or Cancel made no difference.

BTW, the Andy file that it was originally insisting it couldn't find was MilkManAndy.cr2 (which I couldn't find on my hard drive).

I can't win.

regards,
Andrew

OK, I've fixed it. I clobbered Poser Pro 12 completely. Uninstalled it, then wiped out the data directories. Then re-installed it, then re-installed all service releases.

**** sigh ****

You did know you only had to install the latest SR?
That would be SR3.1 for now.
SR's are cumulative, you only need the lastst one.

And if you install the SR3.1 with "maintain preferences", your preferred scene stays as before.
