Subject: new figure at rdna called Michelle is out

Jan19 ( ) posted Wed, 19 September 2012 at 12:16 PM

Looks like a lot of fun.  :-)  Thank you for the link, too, tate.

Yep, I am enjoying Michelle very much -- and I'm so glad you made her.  Thank you again for the link -- will check it out, hope others will, also!!!  :-)  Contests are a blast -- and people bring out their best renders for 'em, so just looking at the entries makes my eyes pop.

All righty...see y'all at the contest!  :-)

I love me some Modo!  :-)

##### I've been playing with a version of the My Michelle figure that uses Vicky 4 mapping for the past few days. I have done the basic re-mapping moving one point at a time to sync up with V4's UVs. It still needs a lot of work. On this one I was trying out Sisterhood Skin from Alfaseed. Nice! :D Wow this opens up a lot of possibilities! If I could ever get this to work correctly I would like to one day put it up as a freebie. Thing is, right now I have it saved as a CR2 and an OBJ. I could not give that out as a freebie.  If there was another way to INJ the new surfaces and UV's in Poser it would be the way to release it. If I ever do get this to work in a decent manner, it will never be perfect this method will not get rid of all seams, I think a freebie would be the way to go. I will keep scratching my head trying to figure it out. Suggestions are welcome. This is a lot of fun to be able to use any of V4's MATs on Michelle. You should see the Oxygen MATs from Syyd Raven on her. It is pretty sweet.

Good luck, Tate.  Looks like one of the Python geniuses could come up with a script that would make one figure take another figure's maps.  But I guess that's easy to say when a person (me) knows absolutely nothing about writing Pythons.

But if clothes can be made to fit another figure, why not UV maps?  :-)

Anyhow...wishing you the best with the project.  Bet Oxygen does look great on Michelle!

I love me some Modo!  :-)

There will be a version of Oxygen for Michelle :) .

Tate don't forget that there are lots of DS users who love Michelle as well.

@ **tate**, there is a way you can save the UV's separately from the .obj. If you open the .obj in UV mapper you can Export UVs separate from the the .obj. If the .obj in the Michelle for sale is still the same point count then anyone with UVMapper would be able to take that Exported UV file and apply it to their copy of Michelle's .obj. The down side here is that anyone wanting to do it that will have to save a second version of the .obj to a different name first and edit a second saved copy of their CR2 to point to it so they don't bork the original.

Can't decide which I like better...MichelleRedux or Anastasia.  :-)

Good thing I don't have to choose.

This was rendered with BH ProStudio General Settings.  Can't wait to see what she looks like at Production level.

P.S.  Extraordinary eyes in this package.

Both products are perfect examples of talented creators who produce a great product THEN listen to the marketplace feedback to make those products even more superior. If people will only try these figures, they will reap vast rewards. If they demand content for them, THAT is what is going to revitalize the marketplace imho. These vendors are working hard for us.

Thank you both.

You got that right.  The textures on these figures are fantastic.  We could use a few more makeup options for both figures...that might be something for vendors to consider.  :-)

And of course, both need some historic clothing -- how're they gonna time travel without that?  ;-)

You should be more worried about what will happen if they meet their former selves in another timeslot.

Well we do have particles now in vue I'm told (vue 11)

There's a new Skin Merchant Resource for My Michelle / Redux, by SaintFox / Digital-Lion, over at RDNA... and it is currently on sale...

...hopefully this will continue to inspire some more folk to make some more characters for her.

;-)

paganeagle2001 ( ) posted Thu, 15 November 2012 at 6:41 AM

That would be paid for characters, as you cannot use the base to make freebie characters.

Yup - sure. But having more marketplace content, and seeing that sell, is probably, surely, what's needed to really get the ball rolling for more merchants producing peripheral content... leading to more uptake of these new, alternative figures, by more end-users.

I reckon a lot of people, myself included, will opt to use figures based on wanting to use certain content that is available, generally in the marketplaces... e.g. certain, high quality characters, etc... more than any other factor. The choice of content is important too.

As great as an individual figure might be, or not, the primary factor leading to that figure being used is, I think, more often than not the peripheral content that is available... in the marketplaces.

So seeing more merchant resources coming out for My Michelle, Miki4, Tyler and Anastasia is a very positive sign for me...

I've picked up this new MR for My Michelle, initially for my own, learning use, more than anything else... as well as a Miki4 skin MR. To use in conjunction with my attempts to learn to sculpt characters for these figures, using ZBrush.

It'd be good, as I said in that other thread, to see SaintFox and Digital-Lion make a Miki4 Skin MR too now, I reckon.

But I guess, personally... if I do want to share anything I make with these... once and if I get good enough to even warrant sharing anything I make... I'll just need to be sure it is good enough to ask a little bit of money for ;-)

Have fun with Zbrush as I'm learning it as well.

I found that using the GoZ option and playing with the Move brush can give you some nice effects.

The advantage of the Move brush is that nothing of the mesh is added to or subracted from, so you can use the morph easily.

OK, I know it's Cynthia and not Miki 4, but this is something I did in about 5 minutes.

All the best.

Yeah, thanks PaganEagle... the Move brush does seem to be the one to go to first. Certainly for making more structural adjustments.

Also the Polish brush seems to be a better bet than Smooth... which actually I think was established earlier in this thread somewhere...

There's quite a learning curve to ZBrush, but I'm a few months in with it now! My goodness time flies!

So, starting to make some reasonable in-roads towards figuring, at least the core parts of it, out now...

Above is an early attempt I made at a Michelle morph...

Jan19 ( ) posted Thu, 15 November 2012 at 2:54 PM

I love GoZ.  Finding that gem in a tutorial set was worth the price of the tutorial set, which has a lot of other stuff about Zbrush, too.

Zbrush really is an amazing program.  I wish I were as proficient with it as those guys and gals who make it look so eeeeasy.

The images you all posted look great.

While I agree with you in principle and would love to support her, I have scoured over every product for Michelle and I have yet to see enough morphs (body) to make her suitable for the projects I do. It is simply a personal choice, even though I can tell alot of work went into her and her existing addons.

Speaking very respectfully -- about the morphs or lack of...Michelle doesn't have the morphs that the "older" characters have...that's true enough.  :-)  I'm sure more are coming though.  In the meantime, vendors are putting out great tutorials that show us how to make our own morphs -- to customize Michelle, or any other character.

Lots of great tuts here and at other 3D sites.  I am basically a novice at Zbrush 4R4, but with that great GoZ and Zbrush4R4, I managed to make 4 morphs...all FBMs, but two centered on the legs...that slimmed MichelleRedux and enlarged her breasts.  I didn't have the heart to touch that perfect face though.  :-)

Definitely not pro quality, but I made a start at learning to create original morphs in Zbrush, using masks to isolate the areas I wanted to work on, deformations, and the move brush.  Then GoZ just brought the morphs into Poser, with no problem.

And if I can do it, anyone can.  :-)  Thanks for looking.  (Click -- bigger)

Nice images, paganeagle.  And I'm glad you mentioned that Living Doll resource.  It looks awfully interesting.
