Subject: Who can you trust.....needed a new MAC beta tester

VAIRESH ( ) posted Tue, 11 September 2001 at 8:13 AM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 11:28 AM

Ya know, as a Pisces I consider myself somewhat calm and easy going., but sometimes something happens and it just boils my blood. As a merchant I rely on the honesty of my testers and I trust them. One of them has proved that not all people can be trusted. It seems my Mac tester did not even own a Mac, she took the items to be tested , loaded them on a pc and sent the pics back from that. Further more it seems she has been selling my items herself with the help of a warez site. How do I know this you ask? Because I have been contacted by several people that have purchased my products but never got them from Renderosity. How do I know who did it?...every beta is stamped just a bit differently ;-) This just really pisses me off. Under the threat of police involvement she spilled everything. The isp of the site has been very cooperative and the warez site is gone ( special thanx to Jay Cummings for helping to track those Rat Bastards down ). This entire episode has cost me a lot of sleep. I do not believe in public shaming so I am not going to give her name in the forum.( I guess all those bible study classes as a kid did have an impact) What is done is done. A public lynching , although nice, would not serve to foster the needed healing. What really smarts is that I considered this person a friend. At any rate, needless to sayshe is no longer testing my items, sooooooo.. Help Wanted Needed, an HONEST beta tester (or two) who actually OWNS a MAC and is willing to test items and be honest in telling me what they find. For your time you get to keep free copies of all tested items. Please reply to this thread only as I will not respond to email concerning this. Vairesh

See... now I wish I had a MAC.

That's horrible VAIRESH. I have a Mac and have done some beta-testing (I can provide references if you like) if you still need a tester.

As a frequent purchaser of your hair products Vairesh, I find this simply appalling! IMHO to be asked to beta test is an honor....... not license to steal. Wish I had a Mac, holler if you ever need a PC tester and best of luck to you! ~judith~

Wow ,This is a crime! I have had the honor of beta testing, and that is exactly what I consider it, and HONOR! What is the world coming to that when you are trusted by someone, to do something like this? Thank you Variesh for not punishing the community for something some unscrupulous person has done. And also want to say thank you for all that you do for the community. I am glad that you tracked this person down, and had the situation taken care of. Take Care, Sallie

Hello Vairesh, There are more honost eople than eveil people. The responses above show that. I would be deeply honored to assist you with your development if you were to choose me. I'm a Mac user since 1985, though I frequently work on Wintel at work. I have some 11 years experience in electronic design and began my 3d career in the late 80's. My personal design skills are more in developing skins (textures) for objects than in the structures themselves. I hope that you will consider my offer. But I can see that many others have already offered their services. Please allows us to show to you that most people are indeed trustworthy. Lem Apperson Eagle Scout - BSA

Hi there. I'm something of an amature and use Poser purely as an artistic outlet. I have an iMac with a 333mhz processor and a paltry 160 megs of ram. If I can be of service let me know.

There is a great site listing (potential) volunteers for all kinds of testing - whoever wants to help (on Mac and/or PC) should consider to register there. This will be a safe place for artists and developers to look for testers, because (in the unlikely event of villains entering the scene) they can be kicked out easily and people will get a warning about it. Link included above.

A little late, but I've wanted to be a beta tester and didn't know how to get started. I've 2 macs (G4 and 7500 with a 233mHz G3 processor). I don't have references, but I'm getting ready to start selling textures. I don't have any intention of getting into modelling for a couple of years (at least), so I'm hoping to build up some contacts to do testing and maybe provide extra textures, etc.
