since this is an important topic and one that should be continued for everyone's benefit

 

  1. I find that setting on average, all imported materials to -.004 bump works, but -.002 is better for smooth skin of metals, and -.008 or higher for rougher stuff like wood/stone

I haven't tested to check this lately but thought I read someplace that E-on said they had fixed the bump map import and you no longer need ot give it a negative amount?? or did I get that wrong?

  1. highlights come in totally whacked from poser! black etc
    I saved a preset colour of pure white 2/56/256/256 RGB and assign that to all highlights, very damn few things require coloured highlights

skin highlights vary on type of skin etc of course

darker the skin, more you need powerful highlights

generally 15%/15% works ok. 20/20% for smooth female skin and maybe 30 or even 35% for black skin..and of coruse, individual scenes may need more or less

AND important VERY important, add some Aniisotropic highlighting to non-ultra smooth surface highlights! people are not polished gemstones ;)

set Isotropic -- Anisotropic 20 to 40% I think

  1. it's not hard now ot edit many materials in vue as you "Edit ALl materials" and in Vue11 there's "world" materials, so say I have 20 mike4s I could have all of 'em suing same skin, or same gold/steel for fantasy weapons etc very easily

  2. Vue can render very well, but, what makes Luxrender so good is something neither poser or DAZstudio can do OR Vue and that's unbiased render, a feature I've wanted in vue and asked for, for some time

alas, E-on has said they simply canot do a plugin to let Vue use external render, so far anyway, because of their ecosystem tech making it brobdignagianly complex and so, not possible

now, this is a simple Maxwell (unbiased) render the poser figure is crap as exported from Vue with very low texture quality, as it's merely used to help me test/scale the ship that I'm building.
unbiased render makes huge difference, there's no photoshop postwork, none, NONE of the usual work of trying to light/texture a figure or scene right, so it's not very good, but the point is how damn good the renderer is...like Luxrender.

 

  1. it's not the skin or materials that bothers me in vue, I'm pretty good at fixing those, what is a real bugbear to me, is: how the hell can I make clothes look more real? :(
    problem is real clothing has tons of creases, flows along the body etc, using magnets is a pain in the arse in poser and simply not good enough.

this is vital to achive realism, at moment the clothes are far to stiff, "tubular" and cartoony

I am grossly ignorant when it comes to Poser and DazStudio, I bought Poser Pro2102 and ben using poser since Version 4 but only to assemble and then export figures, but am unfamiliar with many of it's abilities, is there anyway I can "paint" geometry changes on clothing like I think it can do on faces in recent versions of Poser?

I know a little about "clothify" but it seems mostly useless as it doesn't work on "conforming" clothing, which is what nearly ALL poser clothng is!

anyone able to help with that, please? :) I want to be able to add tons of folds, creases, get cuffs to follow wrists etc
Only sugestion I've heard is to export conforming clothing as .obj, import back and clothify that? Eeeeeeek!

I'd LOVE if the terrain painter could paint on any mesh in Vue

genesis in poser doesn't import into vue.  sad.

With regards to point 6, you should have a look at marvellous designer, a fantastic little piece of software that does clothes, cloth really well.

Easy to use and make clothing items too, and you can export the animated material as well.

I do not believe all has to be done in Vue either. Figures can be made more life-like in Photoshop and through the use of filters.

aye it requires work :)

Thefixer is probably very good/familiar with Poser/DAZ, which I am not :/ so such users may want/expect the great stuff they can do in those apps, to come through to Vue
But since I don't know how to do such in Poser/DAZ anyway (get the great figures/skin/highlights soem can), I can't help with such, sorry!
Dunno about you Paula but honestly enough for me figuring out Vue, AND also Rhino (for modelling) and Photoshop (for postwork/textures)

The addition of DAZ studio to the issue has really complicated things, sigh.
I got some of the genesis figures, because as fantasy artist, I need broad/unusual base of people/critters/clothing/morphs and being a thrifty Scot, I grab things on sale or "fastgrab" when possible! :P
Still not got round ot installing/using DAZ though! hope to do so now I have more time on my hands, so thanks very kindly for that tutorial! :)

 I build up libraries of content over time, using sales etc,c an always downaload or use later, otherwise be a pain trying to get, say a specific set of armour, or critter.

Oh, asked on Poser forum, damn, I R Dumbass :P
Apparently the morph tool works on clothing...if I'd only realized that earlier, doh!
the unrealstic" tubular" look of most clothing's been pain for ages, using magnets is a pain and no use for fine work...so if can just paint in more creases etc that will really help :)

Genesis Import fine with Cr2 exporter :) (Dson did not work atm)

Genesis exported from PoserPro2012; with dynamic cloth and Poser shaders untouched.

Sorry, I don't understand this.  Are you saying that Genesis will import to Vue from DAZ Studio using a Cr2 exporter, or that Genesis will import to Poser from Daz Studio with the Cr2 exporter? 

Genesis will export from Poser into Vue with Poser dynamic cloth and shaders untouched?  What do you use, or what file type is it, that you import Genesis to Vue?
