Subject: Using Poser files in Carrara

I am interested in buying the Dreamland Models product called "Movie Sets, 81 city blocks".

Big question (that Renderosity could not answer) is whether or not these models can be imported or used in Carrara 8 Pro. When installed, will they show up in runtime folders as Props? Can the obj files be imported as vertex files that can be manipulatred in the vertex room in Carrara?

Since is Poser model will open without many problems. Even Camera presets can be imported in Carrara (they dont show up in the Browser but you cna use the import option). Materials sinc eit use PZ2 files are OK to load too.

Maybe you need some twiiking in the shader to get a better look in Carrara.

I own and use the Dreamland Models in Carrara.

I think they show up as props in the folder (I'm not at my computers, so I'm not sure).

Some of the textures can be modified (especially the glass and metals) to make them look even better than they do in Daz or Poser.

Thanks, guys. I bought the program and have been playing with it for several hours with no success. It comes as three zip files, one of which is a tutorial about using it within Poser - not my interest.

The unzipped files don't install into the Poser and DAZ locations like the DAZ downloads do so I placed various files where I thought they would work. They didn't. I tried several locations without success.

I finally managed to bring a couple of their scenes into a Carrara file. They only have one set of buildings within the 81 blocks. I should have looked at that more carefully before I bought it because I was hoping to create some scenes with a variety of buildings.

Anyway, there are some nice textures I should be able to use and I've learned a good lesson about buying Poser fiiles for use in Carrara. Thanks for your interest. I appreciate it.

I usually have to use zips in my computer manually.

I rarely have trouble with Poser files in Carrara.

How is the work with the Dreamland Models going?

Hi, her eyou can follow some tutorials I did about using Poser content in Carrara. You need to have in mind that you need a folder with the basic Runtime structure inside to work:

Folder name/ Libraries

                   / Geometries

                   / Textures

Inside those other folder theres place for all your content. This is a Poser request that Carrara need to follow to understand where get objects and textures.

Now take a look at those tutorials:
