Here is the work I have been working on for a while it is the Flying Scotsman with inside Pipes showing and the Flying Dutchman also showing the pipes on the inside. The Characters I made for these two were the Clinically obese Controller and Ben the Steam(idea for a more adult Thomas the Tank Engine even though theyr'e tender engines.) And the work on the Island of So Bored. I make the Characters using Meta Balls and The Trains were made using Boolean Shapes. I have seen the Brysters Scotsman and its amazing The Dutchman however no longer exists I think it was destroyed after a lot of accidents. My Brother is train made so I made some for him and I intend to make more like a Flying Englishman, Flying Welshman and Flying Irishman. My Favourite Steam engine though would make you laugh as no one here would probably agree But my favourite is Charles Babbages Analytical Engine the first Programmable Machinical Computer.

I always thought The Flying Dutchman was Captain Hendrick Vanderdecken's ship, not a train...

There was an express called the Flying Dutchman(it came long before the flying scotsman). named after a famous race horse. The Ship called the Flying Dutchman was not really a ship originally I have been told that the captain was known as that but there were ships called the flying dutchman. Sadly the Train no longer exists it had so many accidents it was deemed unsafe to use. Above is a link to the photo of the train itself. 

I'm pretty sure that 'The Flying Dutchman' is the name of the ship rather than its captain - but I don't doubt that there was a train also named that.  I think the ship came first - or rather the legend of the ship, said to originate in the 17th century.

Yes the ship did come first I read about the Flying Dutchman and on the net somewhere it did say it was originally the captain they refered to but this is the net and personally I agree with you I think calling the captain that is a bit weird. I know there was more than one flying dutchman ship and maybe even engine The engine though was not named after the ship it was named after a famous race horse at the time. I don't think the Dutchman Train still exists but I can't say for sure. Do you think this is a good train and out of the two which of these trains do you think I did the best job on I like the dutchman myself but I would like to know what you think.

Well it's a little hard to tell with just one angle, one shot, but I do favour the tall chimney type of engine, reminicent of Trevithick's engine.

The shorter chimneyed, bigger barreled engine looks a bit incomplete without its 'face'.  I know it is incomplete, but the lack of a front face puts me off a bit - nothing to do with the expertise at modelling, just me.

The Scotsman is not meant to look like a traditional train he is a cutaway engine like the dutchman but to see all the detail I wanted his face open I went to a railway museum in York and they had a cutaway engine there people only ever see the outside I wanted people to see the inside and how it works. The Next Train will surpass both of these in terms of detail. I will call him the Flying Englishman.There are better images of these engines in my gallery.
