Claps and and says YESSS!! rather loudly Here I was thinking that cause computers hate me netscape must as well....glad I'm not the only one! I have a similar problem to this though if I shutdown Netscape and then c+a+d and delete it from the program menu it seems to run fine after that. I'd pinned it down to 3 places that were causing it....here, the PFO and Chemicalstudios...all seemed have netscape freeze while browsing them. I think here more than the other 2 would be the cause as I visit here more than not before going onto my other regular must visit sites. Regards Eshal

How odd. I use an OLD, OLD, OOOOLD version of Netscape (Navigator version 3.0 Gold)and I've never had a lick of trouble at any of those places. I've never upgraded to Communicator, too many bells and whistles for my taste. Heck it's only this week I finally clicked on the MS Internet Explorer icon to see what the other browser actually looks like...actually, it was because my trusty old Netscape doesn't load the chat room here...
Hmmm...it does indeed sound like you have a Java script error within your broswer that could be causing this. I run both IE 5.0 and Netscape 4.7 and only had a problem with my netscape when I had the "Notify Netscape" activated. This little feature conflicted with allot of websites, particularly those that used a new code of Java script. The "Notify Netscape" feature is a logging tool used by the browser to Sycronize your browser to their company. It downloads a packet into you cache bin to give you new product info, the netscape website update and also logs the places that you visit, so that when there is something wrong (such as your browser collapses)it will ask you if you wish to notify Netscape about this error. By selecting yes, you upload from that cache bin all of the locations that you have been and what happened. I disabled this feature for two reasons. One it helped to cause many of the errors that I was experiancing and second, I have no desire to have anyone know where I've been or who I talk to. Once disabled, I never had the problem again. So this is where your trouble my lie. In any event, I am sorry that you are experiancing these problems and hope that things work out for you soon. Jack
Hi Jack, Thanks that's good information. Where is the notify netscape option? I know it's on because on occasion netscape blows up and the send app comes up. I can find where you can turn that off. Wanna laugh? Yesterday I could not do anything on this forum without it locking up. Since I've posted the original note I've had no problems! Arthur
Hey Jack!! I have had this problem too!! Please tell us where this "Notify Netscape" option is so I can kick it to kingdom come!!! I have had to re-boot so many times cause my mouse gets eaten by your site so often!! I knew it had something to do with the javascript, but I did not know there was a cure. I just cursed everytime and rebooted. Let us know the big secret bwana?? Radart:)
If I remember correctly it is under Preferances/Offline section. Don't qoute me, since I deleted my Netscape to make room on my drive, since I rely mostly on IE If not, hopefully someone can help you more in that area that still has it loaded. But it is there, after one crash that was the first thing I diabled. I am not hot on anyone knowing where I spend my time, who I talk to or what I do, it's none of their damn business. Jack
Hi tis me again I ditched the Netscape hepl thing ages ago cause all it seemed to do was cause errors and keep telling me I was in some eternal queue. I've checked everything that can be checked and no joy. The only thing I can think of that causes the glitches at this site is the banners from burstnet...I seem to have propblems when they are loading first on the page. The page stalls so I reload it and then I find none of the links work. If I don't want to have to close netscape and re-log in I have to do the right click trick and open the link to a new browser window though I only do this for downloads, it's pointless if I'm going to post something to the forums. Oh well if anybody finds a cure let me know ..until then I'm going to keep cursing netscape and right clicking :) Regards Eshal

heya; i cant find the preference thingy to turn off the navi-snooper or whatever it is. :/ i used to have that, but now it's off... (try the help? eek!) anyway, wouldnt it be easy enough to just turn javascript off? (what!? and maybe not even SEE any advertisement banners!? oh no! the horrors! ::coughcough::) i dunno, just an idea. anyway, when i get netscape choked up and unresponding, i close it (if i can), then hit the ctrl-alt-del to get rid of it in the task list. sometimes a little invisible netscape task gets stuck in there. end that, and it should restart okay. hopefully, ya wont need to reboot, then.
I have both IE5 and Net4.7 and truthfully I have problems with both.I have an LAN line if that makes a difference Except with speed I haven't noticed. I spent a whole day trying to get my net. working deleted everything scaned, defraged , reloaded repeat, repeat, repeat. Finally after 10 hrs I got it all up and working. For someone who just wants to work or have fun on the computer I have learned way to much about how to fix problems. But I digress, I find I have more problems logging on to PFO than anywhere else. But I find I get a java script error message when I use IE but I haven't gotten a sieze up since that awful sunday ( I have been told I should start a new religion where the computer is your God and Devil)
IE5 under the security pull down..... do a "Custom" security setting..... click on.... clear cache when close.... and disable cookies.... or prompt (which is what I use... enable accept non-persistant cookies.... ( you leave the site.. they leave your computer....) Netscape..... still trying to get it to come up.... I start all my browsers offline.. then go once I've decided if I'm going to connect ... I usually connect with a LAN when I go online.. but at hmoe I don't bother...... (Way too slow) Hope this helps a bit.. Thom

I've been having this problem where all of a sudden my Netscape browser ceases to function. Links are no longer active and new pages will not load. I finally figured out it was this forum that's doing it! I don't know what kind of code you're running under the covers, but it's screwing me up big time. The only way for me to clean things up is to reboot. Even if I shutdown all instances of netscape (4.7 by the way) and restart it this is not enough. I really like this forum, but my trips here are going to be minimal until you fix the problem. I'm sure there are others out there who are getting wacked too. I hope this doesn't sound like an angrygram it's not meant to. My purpose is just to let you know there is a problem.
