Just read a review on Amazon about Poser 9 having possible compatibility issues with DAZ characters now. If I buy Poser 9 will I be able to work with Michael 4 & Michael 5? I've been using Poser 7 for a few years now and have all kinds of cool props and clothing for Mike 4 so I hope they are compatible. :(

Hoping to get some quick answers as I see Poser 9 at Amazon for 89.99 right now. Also I notice Poser Pro 2012 is the same price? What is the difference between the two? Will Poser Pro support DAZ characters?

Poser 9 will support M4 natively, and M5 using the DSON plugin from Daz. There are still issues with Genesis characters in Poser, but they are clearly working on it. It works now with some limitations. (I don't use it personally so cannot point out specifics, but I know from reading other threads here, many users are finding it useful.)

Poser 9 is SO superior to Poser 7 that even if M5 did not work in it, it would be worth the upgrade for the addition of Sub Surface Scattering and other improvements to the render engine. You will not believe how easy good lighting becomes using the IDL feature (along with bagginsbill's excellent free Envdome.)

All scaling issues from past releases appear to be fixed.

Poser Pro is also a complete 64 bit package, which allows it to use all of the memory you throw at it (assuming you have a 64 bit operating system like XP 64, Win 7 or 8.)

The Gamma Correction is top notch and vastly improves render quality and workflow in Poser. (And believe me... I was a major critic of GC for a long time! This WORKS!) There are a couple of free utilities that you can get to really make all these features super simple. Snarleygribley's EZSkin 2 and Scene Fixer are free and automate the setup for the advanced features.

I'm running Poser Pro 2012 and would not be without the pro features.

Well I went ahead and purchased Poser Pro 2012 for 89.99 at Amazon. Hopefully I'll be able to use it for Michael 4 at least. I have Poser 7 but I can't get it to install on my Windows 7 machine.

Has anyone else besides me had trouble installing Poser 7 on Windows?

You bought Poser Pro 2010, not 2012.

Woops, just verified, it is Poser Pro 2010. Which is better, Poser Pro 2010 or Poser 9?

P9 can use weightmapping and SSS, but is limited to 32bit.

pp2010 is 64 bit and has Gamma Correction, but cannot use weightmapping or the new SSS.

Firefly was also improved in P9, so rendering with IDL, etc is actually faster

I would go with P9, were it me.

If you can cancel your order or return it, do it.  Poser 9 is better.

Also, Amazon typically has Smith Micro products as "lightning deals" at this time of year.  You might want to wait a bit and see if Poser 9 or 2012 is featured.  Last year they had Poser 9 for $59.95, and Poser Pro 2012 for $120.99.  Dunno if they'll do it this year, but it probably won't hurt to wait.  There are usually good bargains on software available around Christmas.
