Subject: Misleading E-Mail Ad from RO

I am not sure why, but I saw this little "Newbie or Pro..." test banner in my renderosity weekly e-mail and thought, "Gee, this might be fun for poops and grins" only to find out it is a redirecting you to a sales pitch for that darned lighting class/club whatever. I would consider this unsolicited spam as it is marked like a cute little survey/test. Coming from here I trusted it enough to put in my e-mail. An AD should be marked as such. Plus should never ask for your patrons e-mail (*yes shame on me for falling for it, but shame on you for sending it out).

Not real thrilled....

OMG, I was coming in here to say the same exact thing! I didn't get to a 2nd page. it took me straight to entering my email address then it took me to the "learn 3D lighting" blah blah blah page. This is the 2nd time I fell for this same speil (or shpeel). The first time was through a different way (I cannot remember when, where or how.) This is very misleading and a really unflattering or uncouth way to dredge up customers by Waldemar Belwon. I too, thought I was going to participate in a little quiz or something like that. Shame on  Waldemar Belwon, and whoever posted it on Renderosity's newletter (if they knew what was actually in it).

Generally, I have no qualms with Renderosity or it's vendors. This is probably the best 3D content provider on the WWW. And with the best vendors as well and every vendor that I have had to contact has always given me 100%, A+ service. This phony ad has NOT changed my mind about Renderosity or it's vendors, except for 3Dlightmasterdotcom. Sorry, I can not do business with someone who stoops that low to garner customers. Oh sure you get some "free" tips, but in reality, they want you to buy their product and it ain't exactly cheap. And even if it were cheap, I'd rather find out how to better my skills by a vendor who is up front on selling their wisdom in the marketplace.

I still love you R'osity!  :)

PS: If you put your email in again, on the next page (The one in the first post on the bottom) it will take you to a long "speech" of why you need to buy his training and in several places it says to "Buy it now" (Or similar wording). Buy hurry, it on sale for $47.00. Regular price is $167.00 . So yeah, it's a pitch to get people to buy his lighting training.

Well the "Buy This" spam has started. Apparently you don't need to put your e-mail in twice to get it!

There was no quiz at all. The person lied to get people sucked in.....

Hey guys, my deepest apologies for this technical error and for all the invonvenience this has caused. The test was working properly for a few days and then suddenly one of the links got broken and because of that it auto-redirected to another page.

It's now working properly.

You can take it here:

Again, so sorry for the trouble!

I just got back on line and found more then a "few" spam sent to my e-mail addy, which I only input at the beginning of the "Test" request. I had no idea it was going to be kept and I would be sent so much spam. I have unsubscribeed 2 times now.

I just want to be honest, it feels like being pushed into a purchase I don't want. Maybe it was an accident this time, but I would be more inclined to express interest in a product that is advertised honestly and up front from the get go. Not using the form of sales your ads do.

In my opinion the "classes" are over priced, and the costs over all are too high. Try selling the product at one set price as a PDF, with online forum support as you say you have. If I buy I want a "Hard Copy" even if it is a Class. Give some thought to this.

Your ads are very vague about the product, and that makes me not want to invest money or trust. I have seen several of your ads,  and I feel like they ask me to buy sight unseen and to "Trust" that you will  provide.....? Not really sure. I'm not one who wants to suscribe to a product. I want to own it.

Maybe a Dream Light thread here would help! Get some of your current and past customer to post testimonials that can be questioned. Let potential customers ask you specifics, and gain some better idea of what you really are trying to offer. Allow for a really nice informative ad on Renderosity that is clear and concise.

I also just got on and see you site mailed me, I am going to respond now.

I agree Ariana.

I did fall for this one other time by clicking on a link this person put up somewhere ( I forget when where or how). It was very similar to this current way and as soon as I input my email address, I started getting spammed over and over, wanting me to buy the classes/tuts/training, whatever. That is why it is difficult for me to believe that this was an accident. I tend to believe that there was not a quiz at all and only after this thread started and Renderosity had contacted the above person, that he made a quiz quickly. That is just my feeling on this. Sorry....

I did site mail Waldemar, and expressed my (*our) concerns. No reply back, but he did ask me to take down the SS. I can't since it there for several days and we can only edit in the first like 15 minutes. But I wouldn't anyway. There are lots of people here selling full Tutorials in PDF, like Sveva's great tuts, or Ironman13! And others. So it can be done.

I am sure that Renderosity would gladly host Waldemar's product here! That I could trust.

He is aware of our concerns, because he posted in this thread. LOL.

I don't have a problem with anyone selling full PDF tuts and stuff, it is the way this particular person goes about it, that is in question. Perhaps he doesn't want to put his tuts in the marketplace because then rendo (or any other 3D stores) would get half of the profits (Right?)

FutureFantasyDesign ( ) posted Wed, 05 December 2012 at 9:21 AM

I think his concerns are that someone will "steal" them and sell them on a 'shareware' or other type of file sharing site. To my knowledge there is no PDF at all, but a series of videos that you have to access by way of his website. Hence the terms "Class".  So at any cost I do not want to rely only on a website. Things can happen. I like a physical backup to protect my investments. As a side note, Sveva's lighting tutorial is excellent! And at a reasonable cost too!

As to file sharing and theft, I have to wonder if someone out there hasn't done this already... I mean with some of the advanced software doing so is not that hard from what I hear. So were I him, I would package and sell and trust that the customers would protect him. But I see people in this community protect each other if they see any bad behavior or theft. Also I do not personally know anyone who have taken these "Classes". So I have no idea how his teaching methods are.

Hard to say....
