Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 23 8:11 am)
The way I do it is to select the part whose pivot point (origin) you want to change , select the view that lts you see where the center should be (front, right or top view) and zoom in as close as possible. Open the joint editor, then put the mouse over the center of the GREEN + , a circle should appear, then drag it to where it needs to go. Drag it close and zoom in more to position it accurately. Using the textured wireframe display mode lets you see the mesh and position the center more accuratley.
The poser units dont really matter for this. On the joint editor panel you will see the x,y,z values for the center and you can move those dials if dragging the + isnt accurate enough.
Which version of Poser are you using? If you have a recent version of Poser, one that supports 'Animatible Origin', then I suggest the following.
Forget the Joint Editor, don't use it for positioning the origin, or only use it to get an initial rough approximation. With the item selected, go to its Properties tab, and enable 'Display origin' and 'Animatible Origin'. Change back to the Parameters tab and use the Origin dials to position the origin. If you still do not have fine enough control, you have two options.
1). You can click on the numeric field of the Origin dial. You can type in a value to a precision of eight decimal places (In Poser Native Units. It may be different in other units).
Or...
2). If you double click on an Origin dial, you will be presented with a box where you can change the 'Sensitivity' of the dial. The Sensitivity (aka 'trackingScale') sets the smallest increment of change when you turn the dial.

It's the chest and the lid needs to open and shut. I've got it working in Silo but as he says.. I need to use 'origins' to get it to work in Poser. Now here's my problem... I don't have enough control over the 'origins' to get it perfectly into the center. I've moved the preferences in Poser to Millimeters as that seems to be the smallest I can go.. but there's still too much difference each time I move it. I could change the figures in the parameters but that's going to take forever and really.. I don't want to have to do that everytime I go into Poser to change things as this is along way from being finished.
Can anyone give me any suggestions on how to get more control?
I use a Mac.. SnowLeopard
Thank you in advance
