Subject: unwanted smoothing

Seems to me I once knew how to handle this, but I've slept since then...

I made a nice octagonal pedestal in Bryce, saved it as an .obj, then loaded it into Poser.  when I render, it seems that Poser is trying to smooth what I intended to be nice sharp corners.  I unchecked the "smooth polygons" option in the prop properties, and in the rendering options.  What am I missing?

crease angle? (try 22.5, that works for me as a good comprimise for hard and curves)

I guess that's it.  Thanks.  I had been thinking I had tried that, but apparently not.

What program are you modeling in?

Make sure the export settings are not optimising your vertices . That means that the edges you cut will be welded together because two verts are in the same space, so they will be welded.  Then Poser will try to smooth it. Learned the hard way on that one. Grrrrrrrr
