I'm not an administrator here, so this request may carry little weight. Still...

Just by looking at the title of this thread you should have a pretty good idea of what it's about. Titles like "Question" or "I need help" don't give us busy Poser users any clue as to whether we can provide any input or derive any insight from the thread.

For example, the most recent "I need help" thread could just as easily been titled "Dymanic cloth and michael 4 genitalia". Now we all know what it's about and can make an informed decision as to whether we go there or not.

I have no problems with this concept.

I'm sure someone will disagree and say that it only takes a click and a few seconds to read a thread, but I like descriptive titles.

It helps everyone while the thread is current, but it also really helps when the thread turns up in a search later on. If I do a search and it throws up a bunch of results, the first threads I check out are the ones with helpful names.

Only as a last resort do I start looking through all the "I need help!!!" or "Newbie question" or "What causes this?" type threads because clearly they could be about anything.

Yeah, I like descriptive titles, but I normally click on them anyway...no matter what the tittle is...just to have a peek ;).

Similarly, I see no point in wrapping up xmas presents.

It only takes a second to open the thread and read it... maybe. More correct to say it only takes a few seconds to type a descriptive thread title, then the hundreds of forum members aren't spending a collective number of wasted hours on something the poster could have done once, with the title. The poster knows and has considered the problem enough to post, we have no clue until we open it.

I like the approach taken by the Daz forum e-bots.

They send a whole transcript of the post they're notifying about.

That way I just read and delete the email and rarely, if ever, have to actually visit the Daz forums ;-)

But seriously that would be quite useful if Rendo's e-bots did something similar... probably... regarding including a transcript of the post?

Yeah, likewise... descriptive titles are definitely time savers though.

But usually the more enigmatic titles do grab my attention too...

...that said titles that are neither descriptive or enigmatic, I probably tend to overlook the thread altogether.

I've missed, or at least been late to, a few, ultimately, pretty interesting threads because of poor initial thread titles...

Over at the Straight Dope Message Board (where I have spent many an unproductive hour) they have this rule. Moderators will sometimes even change the title and leave the note, "Title changed to be more descriptive."

New users may be somewhat uncertain as to how exactly phrase their question but we have veterans who do the same thing. Maybe a reminder on the submit form to be as descriptive as possible. Also, maybe a Poser version check box that automatically includes that - since it gets asked so often. No substiture for descriptive titles but some forums allow you to hover over the thread title and see the first couple of sentences.

The mods on the modo forums do it too, they put a descriptive title in square brackets after the vague "I have a question" type title. They also sometimes put 'solved' in square brackets after the title which makes the thread more useful when it comes up in a search. 

Sadly it will never stop pointless posts by the likes of mysticeagle.
