Subject: Why Still Victoria Products

Quote - I like them, but they are too distinct. Not much flexability, specially Tyler and his face. It's hard to get rid of that look.

This is one of the reasons why I think GoZ is one of the best things to ever hit Poser,Studio.

With GoZ ya could morph Tyler's look in to just about any thing
Ya could tweek his texture with ZBrush also.

> Quote - Dvorak is miles faster. Just is. You can almost double your typing speed by learning it. I know a couple of legal secretaries who type upwards of 120 wpm with Dvorak. But it takes a bit of effort to learn after years of typing QWERTY. QWERTY was developed because typists on manual typewriters using the much more rational original layout were typing so fast that the keys were jamming. So QWERTY was a way to slow down their speed (put the most commonly used letters in the left hand, for instance). So it's not the worst. It's just not designed for modern keyboards.

Highly debatable.  This is a rather old myth - try a quick google search.  It was adjacency of frequently paired letters in the original key layout (i.e. th) that caused jams and resulted in the switch to QWERTY, not an attempt to slow typists. The study which indicated that the DVORAK layout was superior was conducted by for the Navy by one Anton Dvorak (sound familiar?) who happened to hold a patent on that layout!  What a surprise that his experiment found it superior.  Generations of typists, however, have not.  DVORAK is immediately available on any modern keyboard, but it remains nearly unused.

This myth is now so engrained that it has spawned a number of tests and studies which have generally indicated a insignificant mean variation in speed by experienced operators.  For anyone with a genuine interest, google the article by Liebowitz and Margolis for an overview of the genesis of this particular myth.  This lays out the standard arguments for lock-in and path dependence.

In any event, I guess we agree that calling it the worst possible is a bit of hyperbole. Klebnor

If most of us had ZBrush, that might be a valid argument.  However,

I think allthis serves to prove is that it's all purely a matter of taste, above all else. Why are films still sold in shops for cameras? Come on guys and girls, there's such thing as DIGITAL cameras now, they're way better! That's my opinion; yours may well be different, but that's the beauty of it! Just because something's old doesn't mean it should be ditched. I really love V4, mainly because of the huge amount of content that's available for her, but also because all my old characters are based on her. Perhaps, if there was a character converter that morphed a new, better quality figure to look just like Annette, for example, I might entertain the idea. Also, from what I've seen, using Genesis with Poser is a whole lot more hassle than using V4, so I'm just going to stick with what I know for now.

I'm running Win 10 Pro 32GB RAM Intel Core i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti

With my "optical weapon of choice" being a 4 X 5 Crown Graphic and slow BW film, I would argue that digital has a long way to go yet.  However, availability of film is getting to be a bit if a problem.

Ditto on sticking with what I now use and the hassle of getting gene to work with Poser.  More hassle than worth.

My $.02...

Vendors continue to make V4 products because they continue to sell FOR WHATEVER reason. Many of us have realized that with the advent of the advances in Poser 9, EZSkin2 and Scene fixer there is a LOT of milage left in the existant figures (V3 et al included.)

Until V4 is of no further service to a large audience, I believe you will continue to see products for her, advantages of any other figure(s) not withstanding..

You don't half to have zBrush for a content creator to make zBrush Morphs for Tyler :)
Even if you don't have C4D,Max,LW,zBrush ,Photoshop etc etc
That's cool you don't half to have them to use Poser ,Studio.
But if you use Poser ,Studio.
Then you have used content from C4D,Max,LW,zBrush ,Photoshop etc etc.

And the point is?  Tell me something we already haven't known for years.  I also use content made with Wings3d, textures and displacement maps made in PovRay.  Big deal.  I've probably got some things I did in LIonSnake too, haven't looked.  Again, big deal.

The question was why products for V4 are still being made, the answer is people still buy them.  That and it beats BlobMan Studio by a long shot. (Povray users will understand, probably not many others will.)

The point is quit ripping one sentence of mine out of a paragraph and putting it in another content.

Let it go.

Going all the way back to the original post ...

I suspect that many people have a large inventory of V4 related content and still find that this particular model fills 99% of their needs.  I use Carrara myself, and have a number of characters from both SM and DAZ, but find I reach for V4 (or M4) when I need a human character.  At this point, given the sunk cost investment in V4/M4 it would take a true breakthrough (not weightmapping or scaling, nice as they may be) to move me.
