Subject: Genesis to V4 & M4 texture converter

kristinf ( ) posted Tue, 08 January 2013 at 11:03 AM · edited Sun, 26 January 2025 at 7:17 PM

Has anyone heard of a genesis to v4/m4 texture converter available anywhere or perhaps in the pipeline?  I had a spending frenzy on Genesis figures when the DSON stuff came out and then soon learned that once I imported it to Vue the textures went awry.  So I am hoping to convert them and use them on V4 and M4.

Have you talked with the folks that put out CrossDresser?  I use it quite a bit for moving around clothing to and from different character bases.

The program itself is free, and you buy a license for the characters you want to convert between.

Isn't that for clothing?  I want the actual textures converted.

No texture converter available just yet.

there's a free script that changes the UV map of genesis figure within poser to be M4 or V4 or whatever.  However when you import into vue the textures are still wrong. I even tried making them wrong in poser to see if they would work out in vue, but nothiing I can do helps the vue problem.  the only thing that works in vue is the V4 UV with V4 textures applied doesn't look bad at all.  that's the only one that works. none of M4 works texture wise.

Thanks Esther.  Hopefully e-on will fix the issue, I am sure they will eventually.

Where do I get the script to change the UV Map from Genesis to V4 or M4 for Poser?  Not a Vue user.  Just want to use all the zillion Gen4 skin textures I have on Genesis in Poser.

The script is fairly simple to make if you have DS 4.5 and the DSON importer.

(1) Bring up default Genesis figure.
(2) Go to surfaces tab and select all of Genesis.
(3) Change "UV Set" to "Victoria 4" or whichever you want.  Its usually first or last tab.
(4) Go to Content Library and save as "material preset" by hitting "+" on lower left
(5) Click tab for active pane options and choose "Create Poser Companion Files"
(6) select MC6 as choice under "Use this Library"
(7) MC6 for UV function will be placed in your default folder for PCF's

You need one script for each type of target UV. This will blow out the poser surface to blank, so a new shader must be applied.

Thanks.  This is useful to know. Could I convert any DS texture set to Poser this way?  Just change step 3 to Load DS MAT file.  I know it won't convert completely because the shader systems are different but I could just get material saved off to load in all the images, I'd be happy.  For instance, they didn't create DSON files for all the make-up options for V5 Bree (the default skin that comes with her) and I'd love to be able to use them easily.  The 20-step process they define on the DAZ website to create DSON files just stopped me in my tracks at step 1.

After some more reading, I found a totally easy and scriptless way to load different UV maps on Genesis.  It depends on which Genesis figure you load into Poser first.  Loading Genesis default female uses V4 maps, Genesis default male loads M4 maps, Genesis V5 loads V5 maps and Genesis M5 loads M5 maps.  I just tested it with the default female and was able to load my regular Poser V4 maps from SV7 Priscilla.

This will only works with the skin textures and doesn't have anything to do with the character morphs.  Some textures work better than others.  I tried it an old Poser 5 texture that was just mapped a image to the Diffuse channel and her face went totally black.  Since I'm not skilled enough with the Poser Material room yet, I gave up on that one and picked one that was optimized for Poser 9.

Now this might have something to do with my vue problem.   whenever I load any genesis figure into vue the texture maps always look like the UVs are wrong except when I use the V4 texture on a V5, even though a M5 looks fine in poser his textures are all wrong in vue.  maybe I should try V4 texture on him.

Attached Link: Mec4D Script to Switch Genesis UV Maps

And, while I was trying to figure out what all I needed to do to download DS 4.5 and upgrade, I tripped across a post on the DAZ forum that pointed to the Free Script.  It's by Mec4D and on her website.  See link above.

Yes, that script works beautifully in poser, but if i bring the figure into vue the textures look mismapped, so I think you probably gave me a clue.
