Subject: black texture for Mil Dragon

mystmaiden ( ) posted Sun, 13 January 2013 at 2:05 PM · edited Sun, 12 January 2025 at 2:26 AM

I've searched until I'm blue in the face and I can't find one but when I bought the Drago set from daz it was shown with a black (and silver) skin texture for the dragon - it looks so good but I can't find one anywhere. Do any of you know of a black texture for the Mil Dragon? Doesn't have to be free I just want to lay my hands on one!

thanks

If you have other textures you could change one to grayscale and reduce the brightness in a paint program. Or you could put a hsv node between the image map and the diffuse color and set the saturation to 0 and the value to .1. I used an mat pose called All map blue with those settings and got a nice black that still showed the details.

Strange.  The features as explained on the web page are found as MAT Pose files; you should be able to find it under the Pose category in the Library.  Black is definitely one of the selections.

thanks for the replies.

That's a really good idea Red Phantom. I'll see if I can figure out how to do it!

hborre - Not sure which thing you mean but there is a black texture for the Drago armor but it doesn't actually cover that much of the dragon especially if you don't use all the pieces. You still have to have a separate skin texture. In the mil dragon textures there is a dark one but it doesn't render out black for me. just sort of dark brown in places.

sorry I didn't see your reply. Drago is here http//www.daz3d.com/drago-for-millennium-dragon

The pictures show the copper texture for the armor on a black dragon and it looks so good!

The Drago armor doesn't come with textures for the dragon, only the for armor.

The Millennium Dragon 2 has a black texture, and they appear to have the same UV map, so you could use those textures on the Mill Dragon 1.

Note that if you have the Mill Dragon 1, but not the second that there is an "Upgrade" version of the Mill Dragon 2 which is $20 cheaper.

I've got both versions of the Millennium dragon and can confirm the black texture comes with V2, as well as blue and red. The Fire Dragon expansion is also mainly black.

i don't see a black mat file .pz2 in the Mildragon2 textures.

i think they may have plugged the bump map, which is dark gray, into the diffuse channel.

it would interesting to see the skin with sss applied.

I'm always fascinated with what others do with the dragons. The computer I had before this couldn't even render it. The one I have now will but I haven't done much with it yet - I have a wip going now. I'd like to see it with sss on it too

Scaling the SSS down to 0.2 on the wings should give you a nice translucency.

Found this lurking in the old pages of my gallery here.  It has the Millenium Dragon 2 with red, blue and black textures applied.

that's a bunch of dragons! I must have a different dragon because the texture I have isn't nearly that good. Probably the LE version - I wonder if the regular Mill Dragon textures fit it?

Very nice :)

I could spend a long time looking through your gallery Paul... and I did. Great work!

I checked again and sure enough I do have Millenium Dragon 2 so I must be missing some of the texture files. I'll pop over to daz this evening and reset my download so I can try playing with the settings to turn the blue one black.
