Subject: Trouble with Hair (non-Dynamic) Carrara 8.5

restif ( ) posted Sun, 20 January 2013 at 3:48 PM · edited Wed, 05 February 2025 at 11:07 PM

Hi!

I am working on final character preps/wardrobe for an animation I am working on and find that version 8.5 is doing something strange.  When I apply a hair prop, it use to be able to kind of conform to the shoulders when the head turns. No more.

Would love to just continue with using Dynamic hair as I have been for stills, but animating any dynamics on hair just freezes Carrara, both on 8.1 and 8.5.172.

Bit discouraged, but wondered if this was a known bug.

Need to try this!

First try: Carrara 8.1 32bits

Loaded Vic, added two motion clips (a star walk cicle and a walk cicle with one loop)

Added Venus Dynamic hair for V4

Simulation works fine but take about 2 or more hours to get done.

Rendered fine without any problem, but the hair looks messy.

Seems to be working correctly in 8.5.196. In fact, most any issues I've had with Carrara seem to have been addressed. There are a couple of fringe things that are still being worked on though.

I have several issues with 8.1 as a result of a Mac OS upgrade. For me, there is a goofy problem with textures. Whenever I apply a texture map, 8.1 crashes. I've gotten around it by  texturing in C7 and then rendering/animating in C8.

However, hair simulation works for me in 8.1. You may want to try resetting Carrara's preferences and deleting the render cache. Hope that works for you.

Thanks All, I'll give that a try.
