From personal experience with my own military, more often than not, those order are there to SAVE lives, not to take them!

During my military service I don't think they gave me a gun and trained me to kill to realistically save lives. Doctors save lives, soldiers are trained to take them. The discussion on which are "good lives" and "bad lives" is beyond the remit of soldiers, they just kill who they are told to, and further discussion will no doubt lock the thread.

Obviously from your above statement, you never considered your own live to one of those worth saving!  As for the rest, war is hell! -but it's a hell that is better to win than to lose!

i spent my time in in posts from medical to scout/sniper

i was 100% trained to save any life

war is not hell it is 2 idiots that want to show who is the bigger c*&k on the walk
