Subject: Conforming Hair Conversion.

Hi Everybody,

I've got an old V3 hair model that I'd like to use on V4.  It's a conforming hair so I need it to be converted.  I've tried simply parenting the hair to the head, and that works to a point, but the hair is long enough that it passes through the shoulders whe the character moves her head.

Is there any method or tool out there to convert a V3 conforming hair figure to V4?

Thanks,

Oldcode

The core system is free.  You will need to purchase the individual licenses for each model.

Don't forget that the parented hair can still be posed independently of the figure. Try parenting the hair to the figure's chest; then pose the hair's neck and head manually. You can use the figure's dial settings as a starting point. Some shorter conforming hair can be parented to the neck instead.

Thanks Bob, but yes I've already tried that.

Thanks!  That's a new one that I've never seen before.

Wardrobe Wizard has always been able to convert hair.

On the subject of WW, Phil, will it convert a conforming hair piece like AprilYSH's Vayne braid hair where the braid is the major pose component?

You'll get a result.

I've always stated the following regarding hair:-

Wardrobe Wizard can convert hair but its not always the best method. Simply scaling and positioning the hair and parenting it to the head can often produce optimum results.

Irrespective of conversion method clothing acts like clothing, hair acts like hair. They'll only need the same jointing and morphs if the hair follows the body line very closely. Most styles and in particular long braids, do not.

By all means convert to see what result you get. Its very quick and requires little mental effort. However remember there is a Plan B, which I've frequently stated should in my view be Plan A.

Thanks guys.  I actually tried WW, but it didn't work.  When you parented the hair to the head, it went into position, but when you moved the head, the conforming did not work.

I just downloaded the Hair Converter from RNA and will give it a try.

Thanks for the clarification.  I will get around to it in the near future.

You either parent or conform, you can not parent and expect it to conform. This is the case for any clothing, hair or accessory.

Quite right Phil.  Poor choice of words on my part.  I meant to say that when you conform the new hair to the head, it goes into position, but when you move, twist, or bend the head, the conforming does not work.
