Hello,
In your scene, just select your entire model, select the object (the box icon), then, in poly mode, select all the "faces"(polys), then display your material tab, select the "default" material icon and click "apply". All your model should be back with the default material(be sure that there is no image declared in the texture path, if it's the case, erase it).
In the material tab, create a "new" material. You'll see a new name "material1". Replace by "leather" and press enter.
Then, in poly mode, select the face you want to be with your new "leather" material. When it's done, go to the material tab, select leather material and apply.
Now, only your selected faces sould be with the "leather" material.
For the material tab: Maybe in your default setting, there is a material map declared. So, everytime you try to make a new scene, this material appears as a default material.
Just go in your material tab, select default and in "texture", erase the path of your image map. Now, you should be able to see your new mesh again.
hope it helps

What? No Silo forum??
I tried using the materials editor, and it not only turned everything in the scene to the new material, but designated it as the default. For all the files. Now everything is leather! The problem with that is that it makes it very difficult to see the mesh.
How do I get the normal default back (no texture)?
Thanks!!
