I'm not sure if it matters much. Even a lot of the video tutorials by AsileFX/ Geek at Play have been made prior to Vue 10. You're going to have to figure out a lot of stuff on your own when watching them. A lot has changed from 7 to 10, but with a bit of basic knowledge about Vue, you can fill in the blanks and figure out the work arounds.
The main thing to keep in mind is the changed units. 1 vue unit in vue 7 is not the same as 1 vue unit in vue 10. Vue 10 creates huge objects, like mountains compared to Vue 7, so you need to scale everything down to get the same results. Once you get used to that, vue 7 tutorials are ok.
Use them, but also make sure you find some Vue 10 tutorials to show you all the cool new stuff which prior version couldn't do.

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(
Food for thought.....

The book is a great start for learning Vue. It's better than e-on's own book.
Change the scale of Vue 10 to 0.1 and set your gamma to 1.0 for rendering.

Studio might let you go to File --> Options --> Units & Coordinates to change the Vue unit to 0.1.
And might let you right-click on the camera and choose Edit Object so you can change the current display gamma to 1.00 if it isn't already.

I've got Vue 10 Studio and the unit scaling option isn't therem that's an infinite/xstream feature or may also be in one of the modules that Studio doesn't have. To accomplish this you have to scale your terrains by a factor 10.
The gamma change works fine.

I right-clicked the main camera and chose edit object as suggested. It shows the display gamma as 1.80. Next to that is an edit button. When I click that it shows the dispaly gamma, input gamma and output gamma all as 1.80, but it will not let me change it. The only thing it will let me do is turn gamma on or off. I don't have a scene loaded, I'm just trying to set the options. Maybe it will only work with a scene loaded??? Another dumb newbie question, how will changing the gamma from 1.8 to 1.0 affect the image? I've always just used Poser so Gamma is new to me.
The scaling issue doesn't affect you at all, unless you follow older tutorials. To get the same results as in the tutorials you need to scale down mainly terrains. If you add a new terrain in Vue 10 it will be used compared to previous versions of Vue and if you add an ecosystem to it, the ecosystem items will be scaled small. While with older versions the terrain is small, so the ecosytem items will be scaled much larger.
Oh, about the gamma, I don't know, I do not use it. I really don't care how my rendered images look on someone else's monitor, since I use them for print and gamma correction influences the print quality badly. The printed image will not be as bright and vivid when I do use gamma correction, but washed out and the image printed doesn't look like the one on my monitor anymore. I stay clear of using gamma correction and always have and will. To be honest, I never had any complained from others that my not gamma corrected image looked badly on their monitor and I've never been able to see the difference on other monitors. The not gamma corrected rendered images look fine to me on all the monitors I've seen them on, while all of the gamma corrected images I've tried look washed out and kind of pale on all the monitors I've seen them on. But my main reason for staying far away from it is that it infuences the print quality negatively.

Gamma controls how washed out or dark your texture colors and sky are when they render.
In Infinite, I have three gamma settings:
Display
Input
Output
